Amazing business schools??

Hi! I am interested in studying business, more specifically finance. My stats are decent, but nothing great:

SAT- 1320(630 math, 690 English)
Ranked 8/265
Had an Unweighted 4.0 first
three years of high school, currently have 3.5-ish unweighted
7 AP classes
Decent EC’s, nothing amazing. Average or slightly below.

I want to apply to two more schools, and need suggestions. I have applied to UNC, UVA, UT-Austin, as well as three safety schools. I am looking for schools with great business programs that are in the 20% to low 40% acceptance range rate. In other words, schools that are a reach for me, but not a crazy reach, and I have a shot at.

The only preference I have is that the school is large, or at least fairly large.

Any help is appreciated!!!

What state are you in? Do you have any matches in addition to your safeties? (Aren’t UNC, UVA and UT-Austin reaches for OOS?)

Are you a senior or can you retake the SAT?

While I’m not a big ranking person, this list has business schools and acceptance rates so you can seek out some that appear to match what you want. Offhand I may suggest IU (Kelley), UIUC, UWisconsin, UMinnesota, and some mid size schools like Lehigh and Villanova.

Villanova, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin

I’m a senior, so unfortunately I can’t take the SAT again. I am also in Maryland, so yes, UNC, UVA, and UT are reaches (fingers crossed).
I have looked at UW Madison, and was a little concerned as it’s reputation as a party school. As I understand, in finance, school “prestige” is important, and was a little hesitant with how UW is perceived.

With a 1320 SAT most schools in the 20-40% acceptance rate range would be reaches, especially the out of state publics that may be “crazy reaches” as you put it.

While for big time finance prestige is perhaps important none of the schools you list would hit that prestige level. Think NYU, Wharton, Cornell, Berkeley level business schools.

@VersacePython UW Madison is one of top undergraduate business programs in the country and UW Madison is one of the top state universities period. It would not be a safety for you, but a low reach.

All of those schools seem like reaches for a 630 Math SAT score. What about U of Richmond, Temple, Pitt, Pace (if you’re not worried about finances), Fordham, Miami of OH, and American?

I don’t know about their Business program specifically, but Pitt is a very fine university, and would seem to be an obvious candidate for a PA resident.

Appreciate all of the responses, I think I overestimated where I can get into. I’ll double back to a few schools I initially thought were safer, as well as look into the ones suggested.

Look at indiana (Kelley). It’s a top 10 business school and not out of reach for you. You would get into IU. The second part is getting into Kelley. You need 1390 + 3.8 GPA to get in directly. If you have one, you could petition. You have the grades and this might be worth a shot. Great school.

Look at Syracuse. Your list is full of high reaches. Lehigh, Richmond and Villanova would also be reaches.

Also check out Elon. Skidmore and Rollins also have business, but are probably not big enough for you.

I re-read your original post and have to wonder why Smith (University of Maryland) wasn’t mentioned. It’s a great business school and in state for you. You’ll probably get in Maryland and you should shoot for Smith while you’re at it.

Indiana is a top 10 business program, but direct admit may be hard for you.

Appreciate all the responses, I was pretty clueless regarding this process and how admissions works so this helped me a lot. I visited Maryland, but it wasn’t for me. My brother also goes there, and I would prefer going someplace else, but I will definetly keep it in my pocket.

IU looks good, but I believe I missed the cut off (dec. 1). I’m also interested in Villanova, but, as has been said, that might be a bit of a reach.

Another might be UMASS (Isenberg).
