Amazing Race 2022

Super interesting because, in the past two years, the only month that Los Angeles County has NOT had an indoor mask mandate was June 2021. From July 2021 until today, masking has been required indoors in LA County.

Unless it was a glitch on my iPad, but it went from the mandatory commercial to the guys at the top of the building.

It was likely your ipad. I watched on cbs.com on my laptop and they showed them on the airplane flying to LA. I think it was that part where Phil told them their first clue was in the seatback pocket and they all reached for it, and it wasn’t. Then he began doing the safety lecture!. And then showed the other two teams seeing the elevator with the combination.

I wish Raquel and Cayla had won because I feel like they really could use the money. But I think 2nd place also gets some $. It seemed so close. And at one point, I think on the podcast or maybe one of their blogs, Penn and Kim said their daughter is interested in going to Duke so that blows most of what remains of the million after taxes right there  No financial aid for them! But they also seem to have a pretty good business going and it will only get better now. I’ve been a fan since the show started, only missing some of the “stunt casting” episodes for a couple of years, and this was one of the better seasons even with the Covid impact. I’ll miss it.

Didn’t really have a team that I was rooting for or against in this season’s finale.

Somehow, the whole season appeared a little tame to me. Not absolutely sure why. BTW, did they get rid of the additional challenge that last place teams that were saved from elimination have to do? I didn’t see any fast forwards either - perhaps both of these were casualties of the pandemic?

I was rooting for the two men

No fast forwards. Did Arun and Natalie have to do an extra task once? Maybe before the pandemic break?

Tame?! Holy moly, that bungee jump and that scaling the mountain are just two tasks that come to mind that were INTENSE!!! The rock challenge? Mentally and physically tough.

It think there were plenty of hard challenges but the season did take a different tone due to less teams, no cabs, non-crowded venues, etc.

I agree. This season, the pandemic leg was unexciting. For understandable reasons. I hope they don’t make another season until things go back to normal. It was quite a let down for me.

The winners played a good game, but I didn’t root for them. I think the two women were far better than they appeared. They played a very, very smart game. I wanted them to win. The two guys, unfortunately, played into the jock stereotype: physically good, but not so good at challenges that needed judgment, knowledge, etc. Arun & Natalie didn’t deserve to go so deep. They were terrible on many fronts. With the kind of navigational skills they had they should never have been in the race. Seriously, how do you go on a race around the world when you don’t know left from right?

I don’t know how much the producers are looking at your show “resume” to determine if you good at navigational skills before you are cast for the show.

I think the guys were so much more than “jocks”. Yes they were physically apt. But also they were: a dad, best friends, a prison survivor, patient with each other, motivated, eye on the prize.

We didn’t see any/much conflict between any of the teams. They all seemed to be competitors but not stab you in the back competitors.

Sure, all participants are much more than what they do on the show. By that count Arun & Natalie are much more than their poor navigational skills. But people win based on their performance, not their non-show lives.

Lol. I don’t think that they were ever in any way ever going to get a speck of financial aid from anywhere. Based on YouTube analytics I’ve seen and their number of subscribers and views they were already taking in millions without AR money.

Point being, ON THE RACE, the guys were much more than jocks.

Kim & Penn’s finale podcast is up: The Amazing Race Recap - Episode 10 & 11 (Season 33) Did We Just Win? - YouTube

Regarding the door knob, they said there was a line through their door knob so they knew to paint it.

I’ve been on the road, so yesterday caught up on the last 2 episodes - I was delighted for Kim & Penn to win, and would have been equally delighted if the 2 women (Cayla and Raquel) had won. My only complaint about the guys (Dusty & Ryan?) was the howling and super loud screaming/shouting that seemed to happen at every challenge - it seemed so intrusive in these quaint towns and villages. I really didn’t think father/daughter (Arun & Natalia?) “deserved” the win, so I was ok with them not winning.

Overall I liked the season. It had a different feel and pace, most likely due to the pandemic, and I’m ok with that. My life has a different feel and pace as well - due to the pandemic. I really loved the villages and unique locales visited. To me it felt more “homespun.”

I look forward to the next season, however and whenever it’s ready.

Amazing Race gives a “face” to each team. Kim and Penn, “the older couple” " the team with ADHD/Anxiety". Cayla and Raquel, “the all woman team”, “the team that lost their job during the pandemic”. The twins, “the feisty sisters”. The guys were pegged as that loud, guy-power team. Maybe they just highlighted every time they yelped! Gotta believe most teams yelped and screamed at a victory!

Many times on AR we have heard teams not be too kind to the people in the city they are racing. I don’t recall seeing any of that this time around. I think they are were pretty respectful. Again, at least at what we saw!!

I have not read any spoilers, let’s hope for a Covid-free race. TAR Australia is currently airing and as of the most recent episode (#11), 7 teams (including 5 currently quarantining) plus the host have had to quarantine mid-race.

Me! Me! Me! Though it might conflict with UT volleyball. Boo!
