This is our first year. Boarding school newbie. I see a number of posters mentioning getting an Amazon Prime account. Just wondering why. Can’t kids get what they need from school store or in the local town (my son’s school has a grocery store and pharmacy within walking distance)? Is it a convenience thing?
At my kid’s school, the campus store is very limited on what they have. He never leaves campus during the week (there just isn’t time) and on the weekends there are always better activities happening than going to target. It’s easier for him to text me that he needs something, or just order it himself. Shipping is free (most of the time), prices are less, and he gets mail that way. Also, since they aren’t allowed TV in the rooms, when he does have a little down time, is gives him access some movies and shows that he likes.
my college D opened up a amazon prime account with her student email account, which gave her 6 months free, then a discounted student rate thereafter. She can get textbooks cheaper sometimes, also, if the bookstore needs to order something for her, she can order it herself on amazon and most times get it faster. it also comes in handy for her to order things she needs for her dorm…
You can use a college student’s .edu address to qualify for Student Prime on the parent’s existing account too. We didn’t have to change any login information to qualify for Student Prime. It’s great to get things shipped quickly to an Amazon Locker on or near campus.
Books, dental floss, walnuts, shoes, computer mouse, vacuum cleaner, replacement drawer for refrigerator…I do oer a hundred orders a year on Amazon Prime. It’s almost always cheaper and has the widest selection. Also, very simple returns. So it is convenient and cheaper. I was not familiar with Student Prime but will check into that next year when D17 is in college OOS…
Not directly related to the BS prime situation, but I am IN LOVE with Dash buttons. I’m super lazy, and I have them all over my house. Running low on kitty litter? press the button. in two days, it’s on my doorstep. I could probably get an easy mac one for the boy at school…
