Ambitious, but do I have the stats? Please reply...

Okie dokie, well I'm a junior, so I'm hoping to garner a few awards this year to make me look stellar next year! Please give me advice on what to do about my AP Classes situation, critique my current college list and suggest colleges I should look at. Also, what summer business internships or experiences would you recommend? Thanks! It's very much appreciated.

Background info.: I'm Asian (yes!) and I attend a rather competitive high school in Northern California. I reaaaaally don't want to attend Berkeley, but I think I'll apply anyway because I'm kind of in the range for that school.

SAT - 2190 (690-W, 710-M, 790-CR), but I'm taking it again in November and hoping (fingers crossed) to get around 2300
SAT II - 790-Chinese, Math Level 2 - unknown as of yet, but I skipped around 5 questions
AP - Biology-5

Current Classes (Junior year):
AP Calculus AB (but thinking to take the BC test, should I?)
AP USH
AP Chemistry
AP English Language
Spanish 3

Additional AP tests for this year:
AP Psychology (online)
AP Microeconomics (online - last summer)
AP Macroeconomics (self-study)

Senior Year Schedule:
AP English Literature
AP Calculus BC and/or AP Statistics
AP Spanish
Government Honors and AP Macroeconomics (again)
Physics Honors

GPA (unweighted) - 4.0
Class Rank - 1 out of 465

Extracurriculurs:
Advanced Level Pianist (soloist at the State Convention)
Varsity swimming since freshman year
Year-round club swimmer (Jr. Olympics, Far Westerns, stuff like that)
Community and Feature Editor of school paper (hope to be Editor in Chief)
Amnesty International Vice President
Parliamentary Debate Chair
California Scholarship Federation and National Honor Society Member
Good Samaritan Hospital Volunteer

Community Service Hours to date - about 400

Colleges:
UPenn - Wharton
Harvard
Columbia
UC Berkeley
UCLA
UC Santa Barbara
Amherst
...Basically schools on the east or west coast.

Yay! Thanks for reading this whole thing. Be critical, be harsh... Don't worry, I can take it.

BTW, I'm totally interested in majoring in Economics (if I don't get into Wharton). Then, I'm hoping to get a JD/MBA.

harvard- reach
upenn- reach
columbia- reach
UC Berkeley/UCLA- match
amherst- slight reach/reach
ucsb- safe match

Why waste the time and money to apply to a school you wouldn't attend? (And why attend if you reeeeeally don't want to?)

Impressive class rank ;) I don't know mine since I was homeschooled as a freshman so my grades are just P's for that year. I'll find out sometime this year, though.

lucky_8910:

UCB/UCLA: Match
UCSB: Safety

Thanks everyone... oh yeah, I forgot...

Octagon Club Vice President and Co-founder.
Mock Trial lawyer (hoping to be Captain)

Any good summer programs for me? I was thinking of LBW at UPenn for this summer. I talked to the recruiting guy at our school and he told me about it. Sounds interesting, has anyone been there/done that?.

Also, please eval. me for Wellesley, Stanford and UChicago.

The Penn coach is a pretty ambitious guy. Check out the times on the website to see if you might fit in. Your grades and scores are really good for a recruited athlete even getting in to Wharton.

lol i thought you were a guy at first. cuz if you were, your chances for wellesley would be kinda low. dang, i want to go to wellesley, surrounded by Taiwanese American School girls.
but anyway, from my experience..
Harvard: far reach, Columbia: Match, Berk/UCLA: Match, Wharton: Farthest reach.

PM me after i get my results back from harvard/wharton/UC for a closer eval, since i have similar stats.

More responses por favor.

sheesh, pick it up people. J/K. I understand if you all have better stuff to do. :(

Wait, you can take AP tests online? Or did you take the course online?

You can take the classes online. I'm doing it through Johns Hopkins. CTY kids will know what I'm talking about. The teachers are preeeetty awesome!

hola...bump, bump, bump it up !

abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz

Time to revive this loooong dead thread. How about an update on my situation???

SAT I - 730V, 770M, 730W (I will take it again...I'm determined to get 2300)
SAT II - Math II: 790

PSAT - 226

Still getting good grades and all that nice stuff.

dude, 2300 means nothing

You are competitive for all your schools. Hang on to that class rank & write some essays that show who you really are.

hi...i need to extend this "hi" to 10 characters - this should do it
