Ambivalent Dad taking D for Crawfest/tours--suggestions!!

Thanks for the great recap, sujormik. We were only able to get to Tulane on Easter weekend when it was officially “closed”–although we found plenty of students to talk to. Kind of disappointed we didn’t get the whole Destination Tulane presentation, but it just didn’t work out. We popped into dorms and coffee shops and anything else we could find that was open on campus.

We did go to two local receptions with our admissions counselor here in NE Ohio before visiting campus though, so that helped. It included a video overview and welcome of admitted students by Present Cowen, who seemed quite engaging.

We enjoyed our visit to NOLA, and now that my girl is decided and the deposit is in, I’m really excited to be attending the orientation in mid-June for a more official look at everything. And by then, D will be able to register for classes. Come August, she’ll report to campus a week ahead of move-in day to participate in band camp. She’s excited to be joining TUMB. (I’m a little sorry she won’t be able to have the NOLA week ahead of move-in day, but the band kids will do some exploring that week ahead of class as well.)

I’m enjoying the interaction with the Tulane Parents group on FB as well.

Hi everyone, just wanted to tell you that after HOURS and HOURs of discussion, my D has decided to attend Northeastern. She LOVED Tulane, as did I, but when we thought through everything, the better fit for her is Northeastern.

She met wonderful people at Tulane, and you folks on this board have been wonderful, (special thanks fallenchemist!!) and I look forward to hearing about everyone’s successes in the future.

Congrats!!! Its a great feeling to finally have come to a decision… She is going to love the next four years. Tell her to gear up and get ready to work hard and enjoy!!!

Congrats on the decision!! I am sure it was the right one for her, it is Tulane’s loss no doubt. But, at least one great thing about having a child that is seriously considering Tulane is that you do get a great New Orleans vacation out of it.

Congrats on Northeastern! We just visited with D2 and it’s certainly high on her list. I wanted to put out a different perspective on Felix’s. I had a FABULOUS meal there. It was when I was stranded in NOLA last Sept due to Hurricane Irene in NY and I went to as many NOLA eateries as was humanly possible. I sat at the counter and told the waitress I was in her hands. She brought me food I wouldn’t have ordered on my own. I spent hours there eating and drinking with the other counter patrons, talking politics, etc. It was one of those great unexpected travel experiences I look back on fondly.
