Americam Musical Theatre Academy in NY

Hello all,

What have you heard about the American Musical Academy of London. Its headquarters are located in London and last year they have opened this conservatory school in NY. Note that It has nothing to do with AMDA. This AMTA school offers one year program in MT with the advantage to be trained in London as well.

These are the positive points about this school:

-Training with Broadway and West end professionals > OK this is great anyhow I have taken several MT workshops with professionals and I personally believe that experience is not necessarily a synonym of great training. All of the workshops I have been to mostly of them have been great but others have not. It depends mainly on the teacher skills.
-Learning from experience. AMTA is focused on doing rather than sitting in lectures and writing papers > I love this!
-New York students will travel to England in Midyear
-Networking with professionals

Probably this is the only negative point that I have found on the net:

-40 students in the MT program > this makes me think that this is not a very personalized training

Please clink on this link: http://theamta.com/

They will start the training in September and they are accepting applications for the NY programs.

If someone has been trained in London please we need the feedback.

Thanks!

There is something fishy here! I applied to the American Musical Theatre Academy of New York and was accepted but my dad talked on the phone to what he called the guy with the fake british accent and said he didn’t trust him. I took last year off and last week we went to new york to visit schools and went to the american mt academy studio. It was very weird. When we walked in there were old people doing tango dances. We found a guy and asked if he was a student. He was really out of it but said “yeah”. My mom asked if there was anyone we could talk to and he said “there’s no one here right now.” This was the middle of the day! The studio is old and run down and dirty and looks NOTHING like what they advertise on the website. We think this is a scam. If you want something like this go to AMDA or to the Institute of American Musical Theatre. I was was accepted to both and am weighing my options. Both excellent programs.

@Brookiebee The post you’re replying to is over a year old.

Lol my friend went here and left after one semester. She said it was a joke and the lady who ran the place was like satan. It’s apparently going under because when she quit they threatened to sue her for the money she “owed” them. Stay away. Stay away.
