American Abroad Student - Am I Eligible for (alot of) Financial Aid/Scholarships/Student Loans?

@Madison85 I can, I definitely don’t have anything else to do. No, it isn’t offered.

What is your best, single-sitting Critical Reading + Math score on the SAT? (Not superscored!)

The University of New Mexico provides a $17,285 Regents scholarship with a 1380 CR/M score, which can then be stacked with their $16,138 Amigo scholarship, for a total of $33,423. Total COA for an OOS student was $35,366. With Pell grant of a couple thousand or work study for a couple thousand this should be doable without a student loan.

(Most universities do not stack scholarships like this. New Mexico is unusual.)

Here is your answer @slytherinclaw

Hello,

U.S. citizens living in a foreign country are definitely eligible to apply to the National College Match. Attending high school in the U.S. is only a requirement for non-citizens.

Kind regards,
The QuestBridge Team

@Madison85 I know, they just answered my email as well. Thanks for asking! That’s good news, now I just need to make a trip to my school and ask for the papers.
So this is so far, my list of schools I will hopefully be applying to:
University of Virginia
University of Texas at Dallas
University of Alabama at Huntsville
In terms of financial aid + Scholarships, what do you guys think? I’m still building this list, I’m going to apply to at least seven schools.

What about UCinxinnati?
Cincinnatus scholarships

I’m sorry but this is incorrect. UNM does not allow students to stack scholarships. OOS students may receive only one scholarship–whichever has the highest value.

Additionally, neither the Regent’s Scholarship nor the Amigo Scholarship are guaranteed awards. The SAT/ACT score you cite are the minimums for consideration. Both scholarships are awarded competitively and are limited in number.

Hi @WayOutWestMom (did you know there is a WAYOUTWESTMOM poster?) –

I pulled that from UNM’s website:

Regents’ Scholarship (Out-of-State Students)
“Approximately $17,285 plus the Amigo Scholarship per year”

Renewable for 4 years

31 ACT (1380 SAT) and 3.9 Unit GPA

It is a considered, not guaranteed scholarship, but like the ASU scholarships, it seems to be pretty consistent.

The Amigo scholarship waives the out-of-state tuition supplement, bringing the cost down to the costs for an in-state student. Then the Regent’s scholarship is applied to the student account, which more than covers all university billed expenses, with the balance then being available for books, personal expenses and transportation.

This is what I was originally told by a UNM admissions rep. I don’t see anything that suggests it has been changed.

I am seriously considering University of Alabama at Huntsville as my top choice. Its scholarship opportunities are amazing! Im not sure whether Im going to take the October or the December SAT but i plan on securing my place at the school regardless by November.

Check out UAlabama Tuscaloosa, I would give you full tuition and with federal loans + job you’d cover room and board, plus have a stipend $1,250 per semester for books and incidentals. If you’re in engineering you only need 1360cr+m for that option. And it’s automatic as long as you apply on time.
