american college selection help pls

im an international student currently at a uwc school

any recommendations for (preferably) liberal arts colleges with;

-more than 2500 students
-urban/ good city location

  • good party/ social scene
  • greek life (preferably)
  • financial aid.

The Claremont Consortium Colleges are a good fit  they are in L.A.

DePauw will have Greek life
Macalester will be urban.
What are your grades/IB predicted results and test scores?

for the first semester of IB year 1 i got a 32, second semester grades are coming out soon

32 out of 42 that is

Then that will be a major restriction. Claremonts are out of reach,as is Macalester. DePauw is a match to a reach depending on what your parents can afford.

possibly smu - fits description, though I’m not good with judging ib scores

^ A 32 is about 3.3-3.4 GPA.

3000 students is large for a true LAC, and the sweet spot for many LACs seems to be between 1600 and 2300. So you are looking at larger LACs (2500+).

Here are LACs that have 2500+ students and meet all/most of your desired criteria. Some are not in urban areas (most LACs are not), but they’re not entirely isolated; they’re in smaller cities or close to a major city. I am listing the schools that I know are 2500+.

U. of Richmond, College of the Holy Cross, U. of Puget Sound, and Rollins.

Other LACs that are 2500+ that do meet your criteria but are not in cities include Denison, Furman, and St. Lawrence.

Non-LACs, smaller universities (fewer than 4000 students) that are located in decent sized population areas include Drake, U of Portland, Saint Mary’s of CA, U of the Pacific, U of Scranton, Catholic U, Emerson, Pepperdine, Brandeis. For instance, Drake is in Des Moines, IA. Des Moines is very much a city, but maybe it doesn’t meet your definition of “urban.”

OP, this is your college search, not mine, but I will tell you that your parameters are pretty limiting. Lowering the student population criterion and/or significantly raising it will bring in many more options (for instance, schools between 1500 and 6000 students). Likewise, not insisting on an urban environment will also open things up tremendously. Very few LACs are in or just outside major cities. Yes, Macalester is in the Twin Cities, but it is under 2500 students. Sure, Lake Forest College is just outside of Chicago, but it is around 1500 students. Barnard is in NYC, but are you female? Even if you are, Barnard will not offer greek life. Agnes Scott is just outside Atlanta, but it’s a women’s college with fewer than 1000 students that does not have greek life. Colgate fits the bill perfectly, but it’s in a rural environment. See the dilemma?

the student population does not matter as much as the location for me. so any suggestions now? basically, i have a 32/42 and i want a school with a good social and party scene thats in an urban location, with good financial aid. thats pretty much it.

I feel like I’m hearing that you just want to find a college/university that will subsidize your experience of partying in an American city. Maybe I’m missing something, but… is there something you actually want to study in college?

As people are saying Depauw would be a good fit. It isn’t urban but Indianapolis is roughly 30 minutes away. I live in Indianapolis and have been down to Greencastle where Depauw is located and it is definitely the furthest thing from urban though.
