American Idol 2020 and Beyond

There are a lot of good ones this year. I like Lauren Bescetti (may not even be close on the name) but so far they seem pretty evenly talented to me.

Here’s a link to show clips, helps with names…

I don’t usually watch Idol but it is a welcome distraction. The talent level seems high and my favorites are the ones whose voices are unique.

(possible spoiler) Curious if anyone can shed light on this for me, what do you think was the reason for sending through the boyfriend of Margie Mays vs sending her through? Their duet was a disaster, for sure, but in the solo round, neither was very good, but she was certainly better than him. The judges had even said they felt she had really “grown” as an artist since last year’s audition.

Thoughts?

And yes…100% the talent this year is far better than previous years.

JustaMom, I personally think Jonny West, Margie May’s boyfriend, is one of the male standouts, of this season— if you exclude the duet. I still question whether some of the Hollywood Week meltdown drama is completely authentic.

Did anyone watch tonight? They are naming the top 20. Tonight it seemed to be mostly about the boys with, I believe, only 2 girls named so far. I did not agree with the first girl. I think her name is Faith. I much preferred the voice of the red-haired girl who had the baby adoption story.

If I understood correctly, next show is next Sunday so AI won’t conflict with The Voice tomorrow night. So we have to wait a whole week to see if the last guy made it through! I hope he did. Guess I can google the spoilers to see.

@musicmom1215 Yes! I watched! Totally agree about the first girl and the red haired girl. For me, the standouts last night were Francisco and JustSam. Both were fantastic. Their best performances so far.

I really liked Johny West as well. And Francisco, JustSam. I wish I could remember names. There was one who went through that I didn’t think was that good (the first one, a guy) and one who I thought should have made it.

The first guy was maybe last name Merico? I missed his performance, but he’s pretty cute! I am not that wild about Louis. I like HIM but not sure he is the greatest singer/performer in the group. Did also think Francisco and Just Sam were the standouts of the night. And the last guy. Dillon? I like him a lot, too.

In post #41 above, there’s a link where you can find names. First guy I think is Nick. I’m not really a fan. Not that bad, but nothing special. I also like Dillon (the last guy). Surely he’ll make it thru.

Looking forward to next week, as some of my favorites are yet to come.

I haven’t noticed…did the kid from Hawaii make it thru? I only remember seeing him at the initial auditions. But he was so good.

And oh, that reminds me…I wish JustSam’s grandmother could have been there.

Also not a fan of Nick Merico. I have not seen yesterday’s show yet, but am glad at least compmom liked Jonny West. He’s definitely one of my faves, along with Kimmy Gabriela and Just Sam (who I’m really rooting for to have a successful career when the season ends)!

This is nitpicking, but the T-shirt Jonny West was wearing for the judgement looked two sizes too big for him. It just hung off his shoulders. I thought that a little odd with today’s “skinny clothes” trend.

I am also a big fan of Francisco and Just Sam- very excited to see how they do. Was surprised they put Nick Merico through- seems kind of generically good, but not captivating or original. Interesting to see so many similar favorites here!

Underwhelmed a bit with Final Judgement Part 1.

I wish I liked Francisco more, but feel he has a ‘shouty ’ tone when hitting the big notes. I do think he has great stage presence, however. He also seemed to control his nerves well during his Final Judgement performance. He’s from my area and would love to support this local kid more.

Besides Jonny, I loved Dillon James and am surprised no one else mentioned him. I like him even more than Laine Hardy, last year’s winner. If he makes it into the Top-20, I don’t think a Country guy will win 2 years in a row. (I still cannot believe what the stylists did to Laine last year— in a bad way— please don’t repeat this with Dillon!) Anyway, I Hope he makes the cut because I see him making the Top-5 if he gets through.

Just Sam was incredible!

^Just Sam just keeps getting better, doesn’t she? Definitely one of the front runners!

@jshain In my post #48 I mentioned liking Dillon a lot. I still have to get these names straight in my mind!

I’m Just Sam for the win! Dear god she is lovely and humble in every way possible! I’m a super fan - she was my favorite in the auditions and remains so now. I cry like a baby when she’s on regardless of if she’s speaking or singing. She has truly captured my heart. I’m also a bit heartbroken to learn AI doesn’t pay for at least one person to be there to support - when Just Sam said her grandma couldn’t be there because they didn’t have the $ I was a bit floored - I really always thought AI coughed up a little $ for that. Hell, I’LL donate $ to have grandma be there!

Dillon is another breath of fresh air - I sort of adore him too. I love the kids who don’t even recognize their own greatness.

And the guy who has his 3 generations of women there (and he went down the water slide with his grandma!) - I adore him too (I don;t know his name) - his great-grandma is a hoot! I’d like to have dinner with that entire family!

I hated (HATED!) that Jonny (is that the correct spelling?) was styled to look exactly like Alejandro Aranda (last year’s #2) - right down to the knitted beanie, hoodie with a plaid over shirt - ugh. Why do they do that?

A few went home that I was certain would be staying…

Musicmom1215, I see now your earlier comment about Dillon! I stand corrected…

LOL @jshain I wasn’t meaning to correct you but to let you know I agree with you about Dillon!
