Hi there,
I was accepted to both institutions and I was wondering in which of the two I can get a better education. I want to be a forensic accountant and perhaps work for the FBI later on, or maybe some other agency, who knows. I have visited American University and I liked the campus setting, but I haven’t been able to visit Babson College yet. I have heard a lot of rumors about the two colleges which has blurred my decision and I’m not sure where to go from here.
I like a campus that doesn’t seem old, and that looks a little modern if you know what I mean. I like diversity, internships, campus pride and all the things that make the college life fun. I also like it if a college has a good reputation, but I know that both of these institutions are incredible so I’m not sure which one has a better reputation than the other.
As for American University, I’ve read that it’s full of women (I’m a straight woman btw) and there’s almost little to no men, and the men that are there are usually gay. I also heard that It’s full of jews, and that’s it usually for the kids who couldn’t get in anywhere else.
As for Babson college, I’ve heard that you don’t really get a good education if what you want to do is not entrepreneurship. That it is a ghost college and not much people know about it. I’ve read that it is an old campus, and that it is also really hard to get an A. The social life is dry, and sometimes it can be hard to find a job after you graduate from there.
I’m not sure if any of this is true but I just wan’t someone’s opinion on this, or at least someone who has attended the college or someone that knows these institutions very well to assert or deny any of the info given here in order to help me make a decision.
I just don’t even know where to begin. First American is the 26th most liberal college in the US, so if you have issues with the LGBTQ community or people of different faiths, AU is not for you. The ratio of men to women is heavily skewed towards women, but there are certainly heterosexual men who attend AU. AU is definitely not for kids who could not get in anywhere else. Please read the RD and ED threads to see stats of students who were accepted and in particular how many were waitlisted in RD with amazing stats.
@sahmkc that’s interesting to know and yeah I have read a lot that AU is very accepting of students from the LGBT community and that it is extremely politically active
For what it’s worth, Babson is very isolated in a much smaller community. About 30 minutes from Fenway Park in Boston. American being located in DC close to the Metro, gives students more access to a city and DC has better internship opportunities and social events in my opinion. American’s business school has a good reputation.
@GraniteLand yeah I agree in the internships part and the location of American University. Thank you for your answer. I also wonder if Babson is one of those colleges that meet a student’s full financial need. Haven’t heard back from then yet regarding my finances.
Wow. Your statement “I also heard that It’s full of jews” indicates that AU is not the school for you. I don’t know what school accomodates prejudice like that- maybe Liberty University?
My kids were accepted at AU and are probably going there. They are half Jewish…and male…and straight. Your query about the school being “full of Jews” is rather offensive, though you may not have meant it that way. We live in Boston, and I can assure you that you would find plenty of Jews at Babson as well. It’s a very good school, but the vast majority of students will be business majors. I’d venture to say that AU would have a wider variety of interests represented. It’s up to you, but I’d advise you to think about who and what make you comfortable.
