American Wanting to Study in Canada (McGill, Toronto)

Hey Canadians!

My name is Chris and I am interested in studying in Canada.

I am currently a junior in high school and am considering studying at either McGill, U of Toronto, or maybe University of BC.

I know what you will all say "You will hate the climate" no I won't, I grew up in Detroit and lived 4 years of my life in Sweden. Plus, I LOVE hockey so I am all in tuned with the culture haha.

So Canadians, what do you recommend? Are they good schools?

Is French Canada really that bad for an American as some say?

Any help is appreciated!

I’m originally from Canada but living in the US and going to University of Victoria next year. My twin brother is attending Toronto next year. Both are great schools but are very challenging. French Canada is not as bad as Americans make it out to be. You can easily get by only knowing English.

Quebec bashing is a Canadian pastime, not an American one. There are 2400 American students at McGill. Most are unilingual, many others that the opportunity to learn or improve their French while there.

I’ve never heard an American say that. Montreal is a wonderful city, and as Tom says, there are lots of U.S. kids attending McGill. And, if you love hockey, you’ll be in the midst of the rich culture of the Habs. :)

There are many great universities in Canada, and all have many Americans attending. Even at the international student rates, they’re a pretty good deal.
