Americans think they're the best at everything.

It’s true that American colleges are the best, especially the top research places, but that definitely doesn’t hold true for K-12

ok, guys, the OP brings up some great points. We should bring them up at our next meeting. Topics to address: Why are black people here? Speaking of blacks, why is Obama sitting on his ass? (We don’t want him getting fat like the rest of us). Also, someone has to start building more skyscrapers in NYC, maybe TheMan777 and TwistedKiss could get on that while me and PlattsBurghLoser get on that pesky KKK problem and Pandem and Maxellis swipe the guns from the silly “regular people” who think they should be allowed to bear them. Everyone else needs to split themselves between solving the financial crisis and getting the rest of the country to hike the Appalachians and swim across the Mississippi so we can be bikini-ready by next fall. C’mon y’all, yeeeehawwww!!!

…no, but seriously, you know what’s great about living here? Fewer people like you, who embody every stereotype they pathetically try to attack.

To be honest I wouldn’t care about the US at all if they just kept to themselves. But my whole problem with the US is how war hungry they are, how they’re always stirring up trouble in some poor country, destabilizing governments and raping resources. Not to mention all the innocent people killed.

That’s my only qualm with the US.

^ riiight, because the US is the only country like that…let’s look at the past centuries of world history: no nation can pretend to be completely innocent. Seriously, I don’t care what country you’re from, at one point your people did something horrible, or possibly still are. I especially love when snooty Europeans, who colonized half the world, like to criticize us.

Australians wiped out half the Aboriginals, the Spanish and other European powers decimated the native indian population in South/Central America, Germany came up with that great nazi regime, Western Europe basically raped the world for centuries, most African nations are dominated by corrupt leaders who hurt their own people, scandinavians pillaged and destroyed much of europe when they were in power, the MiddleEast is screwed up practically beyond repair, and basically every developing nation, whether in Africa, Asia, Middleeast or Americas has ethnic, economic, and political conflicts, corrupt leaders, a screwed up economic system, poor education levels, a massive gap between rich and poor, in some places racism is rampant, in others women don’t have rights, in some countries 12 year olds get their clits torn out with bits of glass and in others the commie government controls every aspect of people’s lives…

yeah, I gotta say I’m kind of relieved I’m American. Don’t point fingers at us if your own hands are dirty.

“To be honest I wouldn’t care about the US at all if they just kept to themselves. But my whole problem with the US is how war hungry they are, how they’re always stirring up trouble in some poor country, destabilizing governments and raping resources.
Blame the system (anarchy), not the country making the most of it.

So because others do it you must do it as well? First of all this akin to saying “Well someone murdered someone, so it doesn’t matter if we murder as many people as we want because we’ll never be as bad as them”

My point being is that just because others have done it doesn’t give the US the right to continue doing it. And it DEFINITELY gives me the right to despise the US because of it.

my point is, the US gets a lot more hate in proportion to what we’ve actually done, you know? So many have done worse or are doing worse and yet you’ll find more anti-americans.

feel free to hate the US…of course, I’m hoping you hate just about every other nation in the world then. otherwise, you’d just be a hypocrite. i’m not sure where you’re from, but im guessing your people haven’t been hugging bunnies for the past 2 million years :]

edit ooh i have 400 posts…and only 2 pages of my paper written =/

The problem is that the US is so much more conservative and hawkish that it’s far more likely to repeat those mistakes. Those snooty Europeans are also far more likely to acknowledge past wrongs. Obviously nobody’s hands are clean, but that’s precisely why the idea of American exceptionalism is so silly.

Well Canadians are better at hockey…and at the end of the day that’s all that really matters.

There are no such thing as “past wrongs”…there were stages to lead to where we are today.

Any country that has risen to power has also fallen thus far…kind of a life and death process. You’re just mad because the U.S. doesn’t only think it’s the best, but knows it’s the best and doesn’t have to say it is.

Don’t worry, America will meet its match someday.

Well, at least this is a political reason to dislike the U.S. I can respect it more than hating us because we’re fat and don’t have enough skyscrapers.

Are you one of the people who always whines about the US getting in other countries business, and then condemns us for not getting involved in Darfur?

We’re pretty much damned if we do, damned if we don’t in this country in the eyes of those around the world. The US Navy is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, but all you ever hear about is how we put our “nose” in things. Next time there is a tsunami in Indonesia or an earthquake in Turkey, I say we keep our aid at home and let the Eurowhiners deal with it.

“To be honest I wouldn’t care about the US at all if they just kept to themselves. But my whole problem with the US is how war hungry they are, how they’re always stirring up trouble in some poor country, destabilizing governments and raping resources. Not to mention all the innocent people killed.”

Yeah dude your totally right that Saddam Hussein guy how dare we keep him from gassing Kurds and keeping women in their homes how could we kill such a innocent man. Afghanistan was by the far the most stable country in the world were such jerks for putting their country in shambles, jeez their democracy was so good nobody needed to vote because they trusted their government so much.
But we’re wrong we killed thousands of their innocent people, destroyed their landmarks all in the name of Allah and financed all of it through oil money from the resources we “raped” … o wait

also, America has Chuck Norris.

If America weren’t the best, then why do all the best scientist from other countries move here? Why did Einstein come? Why did Ieoh Ming Pei? How about Joseph Pulitzer? Irvin Berlin? Madeline Albright? The proof is history.

America is exceptional. And you, OP, don’t you speak of imperialism as a great evil. Being from Hong Kong, you should know that if it wasn’t for the British, right now you’d be wallowing in the mires of communism, instead of having some autonomy.

The nationalism and suffocating pretentiousness of american exceptionalism in this thread all but proves the OP’s point.

Which point is that? The “point” that we need more skyscrapers in NYC? Not sure how you can defend the incoherent rant that was the original post in this topic.

And yes, America is great (maybe even “the best”) at many, many things. Truth hurts.

^ 2x
America does not espouse nationalism because American is not an ethnic group. Get your facts right.

Please reread your post. Do you see the arrogance in it? The kind of self-satisfying pretension that’s not even reconsidered for a second but simply assumed true as some axiomatic truth. That’s why people hate America. Because you’re so full of yourselves and you don’t even question why. No one likes a jack ass. No one. Even if you were the best at everything.

Second point: your simply not the best at everything. The word “best” is very subjective when dealing with the kinds of things we attribute to countries. So not only can no country simply be the best, we can barely manage to define what the “best” is and what things you can be the “best” at.

Third, you’re simply an empire that will collapse, like all the ones before you. Malthusians cycles. Wax on, wax off. You will fall like the Chinese dynasties, and the Roman Empire before you. Even though they also had great positions of power for a fleeting moment of time in a fraction of a fraction of dot in space.

What… Nationalism and ethnic groups have nothing to do with each other.

Tough. I’m proud of my country, and could care less if someone from outside of our borders doesn’t like it. A lot of sacrifice went into making America the country that it is today, and it isn’t unreasonable to be proud of these accomplishments.

I never said that we’re the best at everything. I said we’re good at a lot of things, and the “best” at a good number of things.

Cool. I’m glad I get to enjoy being a part of the most powerful nation in the world while it lasts then.
