Amherst Bowdoin & Middlebury

For psych or bio I'd go with Amherst or Bowdoin. Midd just not as good in those areas. Bowdoin is the least cold of the three.... Midd has the hardest winters. But all are great choices!

I am with Gadad and the five colleges system allows for the kind of flexibility the others don't. So I say Amherst. 2nd choice Bowdoin.

you really should try to see all three, they have different feels. Middlebury is the largest with 2500. By far best languages and amazing new science building!

yeah, try to visit. at least 2 of the 3. amherst was my first choice until i visited. i ultimately went to bowdoin. i have many friends from amherst now who love it deeply. so the point is to visit and go to the place that makes you feel the most comfortable.

congratulations. you can't go wrong.

Amherst is the most intellectual of the three and has more economically diverse students. Racially more diverse as well. The highest name recognition of the three and the most highly respected in academia.
If you visit them, I suspect one will jump out at you more than the others.
Did you apply to any Ivys that you expect to hear from today? I'm thinking LAC-like Dartmouth or Princeton.

Amherst i guess? you got the 5 college consortium, and you can design your own course!

Princeton is LAC-like?

Wow, you are so incredibly lucky! These are three really amazing schools. Since you're not really getting too much useful help here (myself definitelyyy included), I would say just go with what your strongest instinct is. You will have a wonderful education at any of them. :)

Congratulations!

My D2 applied to Amherst a while ago, and there were a couple prior CC posts that gave me some concern about it for her, from a social perspective only:

"..Outside of those big school sponsored parties (which happen a couple times a semester), everybody generally stays on campus to party, with a significant number of Smith and Mount Holyoke students taking the bus over every weekend. Long story short, if you are seeking a girl, the odds are definitely tipped in your favor."

"For the three top LACs alone, the W:M ratio is about 6.7 to 1. "

Never got to pursue it further, since they had the poor judgement to reject her.

I'm sure someone will come on here and say "oh it doesn't really matter"- because their kid happens to have a date, or something- but my instinct would suggest that such a ratio must have some ramifications, in some degree. In a game of musical chairs, at some point the music stops, and then there are only so many chairs.

Regarding the consortium, here are some other relevant excerpts from past threads :

"375 students from Amherst (about 1 in 4) took a 5 college course during the 05-06 year.
40% of the class of '06 took at least one 5 college course in their time at Amherst."

"There are several other benefits besides cross-enrollment. Academically, there are a number of faculty with joint appointments to the 5 colleges; cooperative departments in Dance, Astronomy, and Film; interlibrary loan; and a variety of certificate programs."

"Socially, school-sponsored parties are generally open to students from the other 5 colleges and it is very common for students from one school to attend parties at another. "

Utilization is limited, to a degree, by travel time between campuses.

i just got WL at Dartmouth today, but i honestly would prefer one of these three LACs...so i am glad a spot could go to someone more deserving

the 5 college system does have both its perks and downsides

well im going to go up and visit all three during the preview days for accepted students and make my decision from there. im just so torn

Amherst is in a beautiful location, it is a great college town. There are many opportunities for camping/hiking and it offers many great academic and social opportunities due to the consortium. Out of the three you got into, Amherst apparently is ranked the highest. The salutatorian at my school goes there and LOVES it. :)
