Amherst Legacy?

My grandfather and aunt both went to Amherst, and my grandpa gives fairly generously (not anywhere near millions, but a good amount) every year. Will this increase my chances of admission, or does it not count as a “legacy”?

Being a legacy does help. When talking about direct children of alumni, about 50% are admitted, and with two relatives having graduated, even though neither are your parents, you should stand roughly those same advantages.

In terms of money donated, that won’t actually help that much. The college groups together anyone who’s donated anything under several million. The kid who’s parents donated $3.50 stand the same advantage as the kid who’s parents donated $750,000. So since we’re not talking about that whole “several” million thing, that won’t help. But legacy status does.
