Amherst, Middlebury, Haverford pros and cons? Travelling dilemma

uh, Hamilton is in upstate New York. maybe you meant Hampshire/Mount Holyoke?

there are free buses that go between the schools so the distance is not that huge a problem.

I’d advise making a schedule which fits your needs and not worrying about hitting the scheduled preview events. The admitted student weekends are skewed by the presence of students who aren’t going to be attending that school, and by admissions staffs trying to put on a good show. A midweek visit and chance to attend class can be more revealing of the true culture.

How does the 25K research grant work? Will that free you from the summer and on-campus earnings expectations? That’s a considerable factor.

i would schedule the trip so that you could go to the Amherst event (and possibly a portion of the Haverford) on the weekend and maybe go to Middlebury the Thursday or Friday before (or the Monday or Tues. after) so you only have to fly east once but will see all three schools. The admit days are fun but if you go to Middlebury on a Thursday (or a Monday) you will see more students going about their day and you can still have a tour and sit in on a class. They may even have a program where you can stay overnight with a student in a dorm. I would contact Middlebury and see what they can do for you if you can only make it there on a Thursday or Friday. You really should see all three of these schools.

I believe that the Schupf Scholars program gives you money to pursue academic interests, so it probably does not free one from student earnings expectations.
