Jeffrey C Hall '67 is a co-recipient of this year’s Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his work on discovering a key gene involved in determining our circadian rhythm. He is Amherst’s 5th Nobel Prize winner which I think is amazing when one considers the relatively small a percentage of students who major in the sciences or economics each class. It also is a testament to the value of a liberal arts education for becoming a scientist rather than an entirely science-focused curriculum. https://www.amherst.edu/news/news_releases/2017/9-2017/amherst-alum-wins-nobel-prize http://www.nature.com/news/where-nobel-winners-get-their-start-1.20757
