Amherst president Tony Marx is leaving the college to lead the NYC public library. This account below doesn’t give much info–no comment from Amherst yet or a timetable.

Neighboring Mount Holyoke just inaugurated a new president, and Hampshire has a long-time faculty member in the top spot temporarily.

So lots of heads are changing here in the Five-College Area and, from what I’ve heard, a few are rolling as well.

I am an Amherst parent. Received and email today from the school. He is leaving at the end of this school year.

Some folks on campus weren’t too thrilled to get the news from the media (or CC) before Marx made his announcement.

I read this post on Amherst’s website today. What a stand up guy! He’s the kind of guy that truly represents the College’s ideals of “bringing light to the world”. He will be difficult to replace.

I’m sure he wanted to wait until it was official before he made an announcement, but it was leaked to the media before he was confirmed by the Library board.
