Amherst vs. Pomona

There have probably been threads about this before, but I guess starting a new one couldn’t hurt.

I’m currently deciding between these 2 schools and would like some feedback. I’ll post this on both colleges’ forums.

I’m looking into Pre-med for both schools and was wondering how each program was different and great in their own way. I’m looking into neuroscience or environmental science also. I would also like to be involved with music (orchestra).

Also, what are the differences socially and academically? How are the dorms, food, off campus activities, on campus activities? Quality of pre-med programs? Other academic differences?

Thanks!

bump? anyone? :P

I’d like to bump this as well, albeit a bit late for the OP; I’m wondering how these two schools compare academically as well, particularly in pre-med.

I assume Amherst is more known among the public, but I’ve heard that its science facilities are lackluster compared to that of its peers. As far as Pomona, I’ve heard pre-med is phenomenal, but are med acceptees going on to TOP med schools?

I read an “after Pomona” thing a while ago on the school’s site, and many were going to med school, but very few to “prestigious” schools. Can anyone comment on the difference in how med schools view Amherst and Pomona?

The difference might be due to the fact that for many California residents, the distination of choice may be medical schools closer to home.

destination.
