So I am a sophomore (incoming junior) and today I turned in my course registration packet. February seems a little early for next year in my opinion but whatever. So next year I signed up for four ap classes. This year i an in 2 (apush and ap psych) and in 9th grade I was in 1 (ap world). In ap world I got a 5. So could u guys could please advise me on whether or not this is a reasonable schedule for junior year:
AP english language
AP macro/microeconomics
AP US gov
AP chemistry
precalculus honors
newspaper/magazine (journalism class)
theater (drama class)
I tried to help it out with 2 easy electives but I feel i May be overdoing it. Advice please?
I am a junior with AP Chem and AP US and AP English language…along with the precal/trig…radio at school…and some other weighted classes. It is a time management thing but doable.
And also, how bad is ap chem? I got an A in honors chem first semester but I just got a 60 on a test last week so that’s not good. I was considered taking ap physics 1 but decide on ap chem. Am I making a mistake?
APUSH…we take AP Gov senior year along with macro AP. The chemistry (in my school) for AP is not extremely “harder”…it’s just a lot of practicing over and over the formulas…the homework is a killer for me…b/c each one is graded. The pace is about twice speed to get ready for exam. If you got an A in honors…with a bit more study, you should do fine!! I am taking AP Physics next year and everyone tells me it is a breeze after AP Chem. I wish I had taken AP Physics instead. But, the teacher recommended it for me after honors…and I just went ahead. I don’t know. It’s up to you. I want to ace this exam and write off chemistry 101 and 102 in college! Don’t love it. If you want to go into the sciences…it might help on down the road. If you are asking if you can handle the work load…I think if you are a good student…mostly A’s in the math and sciences…you’ll do fine. APUSH is a bit tougher that AP Euro though. In my school, it’s considered the hardest history AP. I think there is a new curve on the exam. I am hoping!
I am hoping for 5s on both ap psych & apush this May
And about ap chem- I’m gonna do it. I am just gonna focus on studying it and trying for it and then I’ll take phsyics senior year. I think ap chem is more useful and more interesting and plus, both of my parents are pharmacists.
Hi! As a junior, I have a very similar schedule to the one you have planned for next year. I took 3 APs: Bio, Psych, and Lang. I also have Journalism, Honors French 4 & Precalc. I also took APUSH last year and got a 4 (only 2 people in my whole school got a 5 and few got a 4, so I’m happy with it).
My only word of advice would be to take 3 APs instead of 4. I had originally listed 4 (I was going to also take Gov this year). As a junior, you’ll be dealing with all of your classes (which in your case, like mine, will be difficult), standardized tests and prep for them, extracurriculars, and possibly a varsity sport, if not more than one.
Knowing what I know now, I’d say maybe bump one of your APs to senior year. It’s going to be a lot to juggle and you may end up feeling overwhelmed, especially around midterms (which can sometimes align just a week/a few weeks before the February ACT). Junior year is going to be stressful no matter what, and 3 APs will be great for most schools as far as I know. I honestly don’t think a school will reject you for having one less AP on your schedule, but they may if you do end up feeling overwhelmed (and I don’t doubt your ability at all- junior year is just very stressful overall) and don’t perform as well as you could have in some of your classes.
I’d say to take Lang senior year and hopefully get a 5 on it, which for some schools can be just as good as taking both Lang & Lit (at my school, Lang is traditionally taken junior year and Lit senior, but it is known that a 5 will count for the same amount of credit at some schools—the less prestigious but still selective ones—as taking both).
No matter what you do, it sounds like you’re a really committed student! Good luck in junior year!!
At my school, AP Lang is not an option for senior year. AP lang can only be taken junior year and AP lit can only be taken senior year.
I could bump one of the social studies to senior year but there are problems with doing that. At my school, we have a required year long senior project class, which is draining. Plus I know already I’ll be in 3 aps senior year: lit, calc ab, and physics 1.
So i think ill do
Junior year: 4 AP
Senior year: 3 AP + senior project
Also, how is the ACT? I plan on taking if this September of junior year or maybe even this June between sophomore and junior year to get going early on it
Are you sure about that language? Most middle school language classes count for only half a year of high school. Many middle schools teach Spanish in grades 7 and 8 and call it Spanish 1. Also you should check what the colleges you are interested in expect. Some colleges expect more than basic high school graduation requirements.
My daughter is a Senior headed to Rice. In her Junior year she took 4 APs: APUSH (5), AP Chem (4), AP Calculus BC (5), and AP Physics C - Mechanics (4). She also took English Honors and Spanish 4. She emerged from the year with all A’s, but it was extremely taxing. During AP exams she was so stressed she was impossible to live with. While she could possibly have taken AP Lang instead of honors, she might not have been able to handle the stress of a fifth AP. Your schedule is demanding enough that you should be just fine.
Yes i am sure about it. They were official high school classes (spanish 1 & 2). Both are on my high school transcript which I looked at a couple of weeks ago
