AMP Global Scholar

I’ve heard a lot about the program AMP Global Scholar, but I’m looking for more information on it. If you’re an alum, would you recommend it, and why? Thanks!

To put it in simple terms, my time at AMP Global Youth was a blast and the highlight of my summer! I am so grateful that the AMP staff put so much effort into making the online experience engaging, despite the circumstances and I get the sense that other scholars felt the same way. AMP did a great job of finding engaging and educational speakers who were able to bring their stories to us, in hopes that we, as the world’s youth, could carry on the values of those fighting for important issues. Not only did AMP staff create an environment where scholars were listening and engaged but they were also smart in getting scholars to assist with seminar facilitation which really brought us into the AMP community. Things got even more exciting when we were able to go to Washington, D.C. I was surrounded by people who were just as excited to not only learn from everything there is to see in the city but also by people who were eager to learn about what it means to be a global citizen. While I’ve heard about it before, I was fairly unfamiliar with the term global citizenship and when I learned more about it from AMP, I really learned the importance of it and what we can do to become better global citizens. Along with all of the great learning experiences, AMP was loads of fun! I was encouraged to come out of my comfort zone while still being surrounded by supportive people. I was glad that at the end of the session, I was able to present a project on a topic I am really passionate about (gun control) because if we, as global citizens, don’t express our thoughts, values, and ideas for the future, we won’t be able to create a better world for all. I am grateful to AMP for reminding me of this and teaching me a whole lot more.

When I was applying for Global Scholars I was unsure about the program, but being able to participate in Global Scholars this summer was one of the most gratifying experiences. Being able to learn from people my age about real world problems was the best part of being a part of AMP. We get to ask questions and discuss things that aren’t talked about in school, in such a safe space. The action labs helped me to learn so much more about the resources and tools that I can build and use in the future.

One of the things that makes Global Scholars truly special is the speakers that they bring in. Being able to hear from people that are so passionate about what they are doing and that they enjoy talking to us about it. Another great thing about AMP is that not only did I get to meet other students from around the United States, but all around the world.

Global Scholars has helped me realize my potential to change the world and find other students just as passionate as I am. Using the things that I have learned this summer I can launch projects and educate others about these things.

I would recommend Global Scholars to any high school student that is passionate about making a change in the world, or anybody that thinks that they are the change that the world has been waiting for.

During the middle of the year, I was fortunate enough to have to join AMP Global youth. Even though the courses were online, it was an elevating experience in which I was about to connect with many inspiring personal that was able to educate me on various topics as well as issues in the world that are not covered by the broader media. This program also opened up many eye-opening opportunities that have allowed me to connect with individuals in my age group all over the world. All in All, I would highly recommend joining this amazing community.

AMP has been one of my favorite summer programs! I attended online in the summer of 2021 and learned so much about leadership, teamwork, time management, and making a positive change in the world and my community. We heard from many speakers who worked at the UN or other high level organizations working towards making change such as Climate Nexus. Along with that, there were workshops to discuss the world’s systems and how to effectively make change though an organization or specific action plan. I was able to talk to students from all over the world about their views on all sorts of topics such as gender equality, climate change and refugees. We created groups based on our interests, and I worked towards advocacy for climate refugees. My project group, Youth for Climate Refugees, ended up creating a website where we post newsletters about climate refugees and spread awareness about their plight through instagram. None of this would have been possible without the help of the AMP team and the skills and global perspective they offered us. I am extremely grateful for this summer program and would recommend it to all high schoolers!

AMP Global Youth is a personal link for me; it’s more than a program; it’s a portal. It’s a gateway that has led me to a world of love, acceptance, and limitless possibilities. My perspective on the world was forever transformed when I joined the AMP Global Scholars program this summer. This program let me realize how many different ways I can contribute to making the world a better place. It made me realize how important and valuable my opinions are, and it gave me the courage to express myself. I’ve been to a lot of programs before, but Global Youth is the only one that went above and beyond the typical classroom curriculum to provide leadership and advocacy training, which helped me develop new skills and inspired me to start a real project with my peers to address a pressing global issue.

I believe that the facilitators are what distinguishes Global Scholar from other programs; they were so genuine and nice, and they were not dull; they were fun, highly interesting, and professional people who knew what they were talking about.

The workshops had no filler content, were very smooth, and I did not feel bored because the facilitators were so entertaining and the sessions were so participatory.

Global Scholar offered me the opportunity to meet a lot of interesting people with whom I now have strong contacts and can even name some of them my friends.

AMP Global Scholar was a deeply thought provoking and educational program that completely reframed the way I approach nuanced conversations around social activism. I attended the Advancing the Rights of Women and Girls program virtually which consisted of 4 sessions. I was concerned that the virtual nature and short duration of the program would make the program impersonal and less educational. However, as soon as I began the first session all those worries quickly subsided. Each day of the program was completely saturated, yet balanced manageably, with information, discussion, and impressive speakers. Not only did the leaders of the program create informative and interesting lessons, they encouraged the creation and exploration of our own beliefs. The opportunity to grapple with social issues that interest me within a diverse, intellectual, and socially conscious community was beyond gratifying. Additionally, the connections this program helps to create is unmatched. The deeply talented speakers that were a part of the program were incredibly kind and provided many opportunities to reconnect for future opportunities, which could open many doors in the future. Also, the connection to fellow young, fervent activists is invaluable as teamwork and community means a world of difference in advocacy. Overall, this program exceeded any and all expectations and I recommend this program to any young person interested in growing their advocacy skills, finding a community, or learning more about the world around them.
