@msc3173: Are you asking about transportation for your child to and from boarding school?

@ChoatieMom our kid is on medical leave right now and we need to get her back to school after spring break. Flying is not an option because of the pressure so driving or train is our option. If train my husband will go with her. It’s an almost 90 hr trip including stops so about the same as driving.

My husband really dislikes flying and took Amtrak cross-country a few years ago (2 ways). It wasn’t bad at all, and it would definitely be better with a companion. I guess it depends on your start and end points, but I thought it was more like 2-2.5 days (including some long stops), but I could be wrong.

I’d prefer the train to driving. I think it’s a pleasant way to travel and leaves the driving to someone else. Safe travels to you either way.

I have taken the Amtrak Empire Builder route a few times over the years. This route takes travelers between Chicago & Seattle or Portland. It’s about 2 - 2.5 days. I really like this trip - it is very scenic and convenient with stops in and/or near Glacier National Park. I took a couple of times to go skiing/hiking. It stops in several cities in the Northwest & Midwest. You should also check out the train ride across the Canadian Rockies.
