An American Applying to the UK

Hi guys, I was hoping you could tell me if you reckon this applicant would be successful to these UK schools!

My friend is applying to: St Andrews, Edinburgh, Durham, Glasgow and Warwick.

Her GPA at this point is around 3.7,

AP Latin: 4
AP French: 3
AP English Literature: 3

SAT I: 2000/1960 (she did it twice)

SAT IIs: French 680, Latin 690, Biol 620.

None of the classes she took APs in were taught at AP Level, she did them herself, as it were, will this be taken into account?

She is applying for Latin. All thoughts are welcomed :)

I’m not an expert, but I just got an offer from Edinburgh, so I’ll try to help. From my understanding, APs are more important than SATs and GPA is even less significant. When I applied, I already had one AP @ 5, and my conditional offer from Edinburgh was to earn a 4 or above on one AP exam. If I were her I would not include the French and English exams, as most unis accept four at the lowest. She could quite possibly get a conditional offer though.

Thanks for your reply! When you applied did you ‘put in’ that you were entered for another AP exam that you hadn’t taken yet, or did the conditional offer arrive saying simply that you needed to take another AP exam.

On Edinburgh’s website they say that they look for SAT IIs at 650 or above, or APs at 4 or above, or a mixture of both, do you imagine what she has is enough? The Latin AP was a 5, that was a mistake on my part.

Yeah, I entered three more exams as “pending.” Though I bet they still would have made the offer even if I hadn’t. It may be enough, but I would assume that they would want one at four. I don’t know though, but I would guess she’ll get at least a conditional offer.

Conditions will only be in respect of exams you have told them you are taking. They won’t tell an applicant to take another random exam.

thats not correct^^. They can actually make you take an AP exam, that you werent planning on taking, as a condition. They can also tell you – we accept you if you retake your SAT2 to get a 700. Your GPA is very important. 3.5 is their bottom line. I think your friend is a fit for Edingburgh down, questionable for St. Andrews.
