An exceedingly stupid question

<p>When financial need is calculated, is your family's income considered pre or post taxes?</p>

<p>For FAFSA it is basically pre-taxes. FAFSA asks for your adjusted gross income, and the AGI is what your taxes are based on.</p>

<p>It’s a little more complicated than that with some “for AGI” deductions in some cases, but, yeah, it’s pre-tax income.</p>

<p>FAFSA does take into consideration that families will have an income tax obligation, but some find it is less forgiving about other taxes, such as local and state taxes, property taxes, sales taxes, etc.</p>
