Our D asked us about boarding school last year. Having attended boarding school myself I was very open to the idea. My wife was willing to discuss it idea but was not too excited about it. My D, while interested, really had no idea what to expect. We decided that she should attend a two week summer camp at one of the schools she was interested in. This was one of the best decisions we could have made. My D had a wonderful time and it gave my W and D some excellent exposure to the school. We met some faculty members and administrators and got to know the school far better than we would have through the interview process or revisit days. We still looked at several other boarding schools on my insistence.

For prospective parents and students, I highly encourage doing something along these lines. There have been several posts about parents being reluctant to have there children leave to go to boarding school. Obviously camp is not the same as going away to BS, but it is a wonderful way to ease a parents concerns by getting to know the school better.

Cool Idea mr.Morris...
We can't afford Camp though.

some schools give out FA for summer programs too. Like Exeter and Andover summer programs.

I'll have to look in to it.
I'll probably have to work all summer though Books aren't free ya know!!

Mercersburg also offers tuition assistance for their summer programs. You can get more information from their website under the summer programs link at the top of the page.

My S did the same. I went to boarding school and I encouraged him to attend a lacrosse camp at one of the schools. That started the ball rolling. My wife become more convinced about bs after talking with other parents who had sent their kids.

On a similar note, we have had my son attend lacrosse camp at the Naval Academy as it has been his dream to attend there since he was 6. Even though attending camp was not anywhere near the same as attending it "for real," he did get to stay in the dorm, eat in the dining hall, see and hear the training and it gave him a feel for it. It did help. And, a summer sports camp isn't as costly as a summer academic program.
