An Interesting Situation

Hello everyone, I am a US citizen currently living in Turkey, and I have applied to a number of US colleges: University of Chicago, Johns Hopkins, William & Mary, Boston University, Northeastern University and Tufts.

I also plan to apply late to the University of Maryland @ College Park.

I hold a 3.3/3.4 GPA and am ranked 81st out of 180 in my school, which admits the top 2000 students in a centralized exam with 800,000 entering each year.

I moved to Turkey seven years ago with my family and had to quickly adjust to the people, culture and learn the language, which made entering my current high school quite a difficult process.

I have SAT scores as follow:
SAT I: 2100/2400
SAT Chem: 710
SAT Math II: 790

I am in the orchestra at my school, playin guitar and piano, and occasionally the harmonica.

I have worked as a translator in an Urban Development project, a cooperation between the Turkish government and the University of Michigan, I believe Professor Roy Strickland was in charge of the US side of the project.

And most importantly, I don't have much money. What are my chances for these schools and scholarships from them?

Merit based aide chances are almost nil and financial aide isn’t based on your achievements but on your financial situation so none can be said about that.

For tufts, uchicago, william and mary and JHU - your chances look really low. Your SAT just makes it to the 40th percentile and your GPA is too low. None of your ECs really cover it up either. No harm in trying - write different essays for tufts and uchicago - they like that.

BU and Northeastern, I am pretty sure you’re in.

Is there any place you suggest I should apply, for an intended econ major?

And chance for UMD College Park?
