An Open Letter to Chandler -- Cornell v. Williams

Hey Chandler - Have you decided yet?

^ I have almost decided!

I don’t know if I want to post my decision though… I think that’s kind of pompous/self-important. Though if I change my location everyone will know anyway…

Chandler - Congratulations. I think it’s the right decision for you. Go with it and not look back.

I think it would be ok for you to post your decision here, everyone would understand. It would be a closure for you and for others that have followed your journey.

oldfort- Thank you  It’s not a final decision yet, but it’s almost there.
It’ll be truly difficult turning down what I think I’ll be turning down… but such is life.

You think so? I’ll think about it, everyone will know soon enough anyways but I might as well post it once I’ve sent the deposit and everything’s all said and done.

My journey’s been a long and tiring one, but it’s finally going to be “over” (meaning it’s just going to begin anew) very soon.
A huge thank you to all that have given me support/advice!

^ or a lifewater because they found an unopened Crush just sitting there…
:)

Hahahaha true that, dude!
HOWEVER, I did pay you a dollar for it so technically I’m only 50 cents indebted to you
Probably some poor kid bought a Crush, got a call from his mom, left the thing on the ground, and skedaddled. And then came collegehopefull, haha.

wow. somehow I have forgotten to check into collegeconfidential for a number of weeks. I got busy with, er, Cornell I guess?
nice threat though! I read a nice chunk of it.

In the words of the warrior poet DJ Paul of 3,6 Mafia:
“You leave your drank around me
Believe your drank gonn’ get drunk up!”

It was so sugary though…

^ LOL the MOST EPIC thing I have EVER seen!
Wow, that was hilarious.

Yeah I’d bet… my lifewater was fantastically delicious (and not overly sugary :))

Alright, this is it guys. I officially matriculated to Williams today. I’m really sorry, and it was tough giving up Cornell, but I just felt as if Williams was a better fit for me.
I will still definitely post on the Cornell boards (since what goes on at Cornell will still interest me, you know, what I’m missing ;))

Thank you everyone for your FANTASTIC support. My journey’s just beginning (but the admissions one is finally over!!!) and I hope to have an amazing four years at college. Trust me, none of your advice has been wasted on me: I know my road will be a tough one and that I’ll have to work hard (aww, shucks) and party hard too!

You all rock my socks off
Even though I’m not technically wearing socks right now.
But you catch my drift ;)

Congratulations. Don’t forget to send your reply to Cornell and other schools. A nice no thank-you may come in handy later.

so what did Williams offer that Cornell didnt? (not being rude…just want to get YOUR opinion)

Congrats Chandler!!! Glad you found what u were looking for. Too bad I won’t be able to see you around on campus though :'(… Congrats again!

^dont appologize, Williams is a great school and you will have nearly limitless opportunities there. I can’t claim to speak for everyone on CC (ahem Muerteapablo) but I wish you well.

Just what are you sorry for? I don’t see any need to apologize, either. Congratulations on making the best decision for you.

Have some fun.

^ I most definitely will! It was a tough choice, but I’m not looking back.

Resurgam: It wasn’t anything really tangible, you know? Both can offer me the academic/extracurricular options I need, but I liked the social scene/people at Williams more. Namely the prefrosh. The prefrosh who were fellow HBHS majors were really just not my kind of people… they were, quite frankly, either completely rude or completely boring.

Thanks guys!

oldfort: I’ll read that thead and send a few no’s to some colleges. Cornell’s no thank you will be a bit longer than the other no thank you’s. :)

@Tboone, im not apologizing. I’m glad he picked a college that he found most fit. Finding a college that you are most fit for is what it is all about.

Hope to see you in med school

This, again, is a great example of why a campus visit isn’t a great way to make a college decision, especially at a place as diverse as Cornell. The subsample of students that Chandler interacted with would likely have had no overlap with Chandler’s actual cohort of friends and acquaintances were he to actually study at Cornell.

I can remember my Cornell Days experience, when I somehow got dragged to a TKE bar night. For anybody who knows me, it was hardly my cup of tea. I actually hated Cornell that night, especially after spending some time on Notre Dame’s campus where the social scene was so completely different.

It wasn’t until I began walking around campus the next day, alone, just observing all of the different types of students doing all of the different things that they do, that I began to appreciate Cornell for what it would offer me.

And as you know, I wasn’t disappointed.

Still, Chandler made the decision that was best for him at the time. Just like I did. And that’s all that matters

Personas of encounters digital,
some destined to persist,
others proceed now and again;
alas some become solely then.

Life and its inevitable hellos and…
here’s a time for a goodbye.

All the best to ChandlerBing,
and may he later not wonder,
just what was missed,
far above Cayuga’s waters mist.

true i have no immediate ILR friends that i hang out with…but i’m studying what i want to study…

majors at cornell will be very self-selective…they attract a certain breed rude/cutthroat or boring…people at williams are more liberal arts oriented and probably more like chandler…

besides wasnt he doing a spanish major there? lol
