^ Yes! That’s exactly what I was thinking. I think I can craft a convincing argument for “why med school” in my med school applications, partially by discussing my love for Spanish and how it will only become more important to being a successful doctor.
CA and NY are my ideal states for a residency (especially CA, I want some good weather!)

Haha, that’s awesome… too bad they don’t offer it during Cornell Days.

Replace earthquakes, hurricanes, and abandoned homes with grey buildings, grey skies, and grey people, and you’ve got upstate New York!
Woot for dreariness.

Cornell also has wondrous panoramic lake views, a fantastically beautiful campus, 2,000 plus acre botanical/wildlife plantations, gorgeous snow scenes in the winter, et cetera. Also, today was an idyllic sunny day in Ithaca. It gets its fair share of nice days, and it is not really that dissimilar to Boston and most of Massachusetts weather wise.

@oldfort: I wrote that not because I don’t want to go to Cornell, but because I hope money won’t have to be the deciding factor between the two…
Just in case you were wondering, I am still considering both and didn’t mean the “have to go to Cornell” part in terms of not wanting to go.
Why else would I be traveling to Ithaca tomorrow?

Now, Chandler,
Upstate NY has Saratoga Springs, Lake George, the Adirondack Mountains, the Catskills, the Finger Lakes region, Cooperstown, and Ithaca is gorges, as we well know. Williamstown is only an hour from Albany, so it may as well be upstate NY, too.

In the spring, summer and fall it’s lovely. We’re a tourist attraction, for goodness sake! I used to feel as you do, but I’ve grown to love it.

Now that I have successfully defended the state, please feel free to go on with your discussion…

I’ve been to Cooperstown once, with my mom, and I’m proud to say that both of us ate lunch at a country club there for eight dollars total. Not to mention the fact that we weren’t members of the country club or staying at its adjoining hotel.
Oh yeah ;)

What about south florida? Florida>California. Most of miami speaks spanish (the city itself is made up of about 2/3 hispanics). Really anywhere from central florida (orlando/tampa) down.

Not South Beach. You just need to say, “Yes, I am on the list” at every club with a perfect straight face, or “I have reserved a cabana for my party.”

Yeah, Albany, Small-bany but I still feel the need to point you toward the brighter side:

Thatcher Park, the Times Union Center Arena, Palace Theatre, the New York State Museum, The Albany Institute of History and Art, the Spectrum movie theatre, Lark Fest, the Tulip Festival, the Egg, and, um, the River Rats.

Lots of culture. You just have to dig for it!
(new slogan “Albany: it’s better than people say it is”)

Central florida on down has very stable weather (outside of hurricanes, but they really aren’t that bad…N florida can get a little chilly, teens occasionally, but nothing like upsate NY). Its not like the wildfires, high cost of living, mudslides, and earthquakes of california are anything to be fond of.
