hmm..i've just completed my interview for Georgetown. It went well, i think (mostly just pleasant conversation, just asking why I wanted to go to Georgetown, what my EC's were, what were my passions), except for one specific thing;

I think the interviewer may have gotten the wrong impression of my school's seminar school (of which I have been involved in 9th, 10th, and 12th grades). Alas, I wasn't great at explaining it (it was surprising that the interviewer had never heard of it, as it is a fairly renowned program in the Anchorage area; you'd think that they would have more informed interviewers). Seminar school (aka english) is NOT a remedial program, although it doesn't give AP/honors credit. It is a "school within a school, smaller learning community" which focuses more on group discussion than the standard textbook-grammar-essay junk. We read papers written by scholars like Aristotle/Tolstoy/Emerson, and discuss and apply them to today's world, trying to think "outside of the box."

For h.s. seniors, we also have requirements like Senior projects (i.e. something that is supposed to futher ourselves like community service) and Citizen action projects (30+ hours out of school learning about government processes-going to school board/assembly/court meetings etc.), activities that no other program offers in AK. I find it a lot more challenging/thought provoking than AP or honors english. (I am actually enrolled in AP English Literature this year as well with 2 english classes, and in 11th grade I decided to take the AP class route instead of Seminar english, so I took AP English Lang, of which the teacher was horrible and I learned nothing. NOTHING at all! Fortunately, my AP lit. teacher is great so far.)

I hope colleges don't look down on this, since they probably have no idea what Seminar is also. If they notice my AP English grades (they are all A's), they can probably figure that I am capable of challenging work in english...but I don't want them to think that I'm not applying myself, because in Seminar school english we apply ourselves just as much, if not a lot more (it's not a slacker class). Any comments? Advice? Suggestions? What should I do? Should I do anything at all? Thanks
