I just completed my first application. Huzzah!

Wow. I hadn't even chosen where I was going to apply by this time last year.

Good job, what university was it?

Purdue. They just randomly sent me an application, so I was like, "okay, whatever" and filled it out.

I finished 3. I just can't send them in b/c of my immigration status right now. sigh

However, congradulations. :D

back atcha. times three.

Which schools' applications did you fill out?

I randomly started doing a bunch of mine last night. I can't send any in just yet, as I don't know what senior classes I'm taking next year yet, and I don't think I can send in recs yet and whatnot.

However, as soon as CU Boulder's application is out, I'm going to send that in as soon as possible.

besides a few EA/ED, don't you have until like january to turn these in?

The earlier your app is in, the more time the adcoms have to look at it. Those received in the days after the deadline - when their mailbins bulge with apps - will have only a minimal amount of time devoted to them. Those the adcoms don't have a chance to get to until their deadlines start closing in will be given very little time to make an impression - and have to be particularly good to be considered, since their classes won't have much space left by then.

I have everything done, except I have to write like one essay. I'm still going to send it in around end of sept./early october though.

that's crazy all, I didn't start looking at apps last year until about octoberish, congrats all.

That is crazy. I haven't even looked at apps or registered anywhere or done anything yet. And I'm a senior next year. I've been so busy with work and summer hw and well, life! hahaha. Maybe August.

This holds true ONLY for rolling admissions. For schools with set deadlines, there are no advantages to submitting applications two months early. They won't start to look at your app until after the deadline, so there's no real point to submitting early.
"Finishing", however, leaves a huge amount of time for revisions, which is excellent.

quirkily - often, even at schools that don't have rolling admissions, getting your app in ASAP means you go to the top of the pile and are reviewed first, which many believe is an advantage.

A lot of the apps I'll be doing aren't even online yet. I've written probably 10 essays already, and I'm so irritated because they're all bad...

The only one I've started that I like is the dinner party question at Chicago. I love their application.

I have, however, submitted those pre-app data sheets (that register you as an applicant) at Chicago, Michigan and MSU.

purdue sent me the app too. i dont want to go so i didnt bother to start it. ive started the common app and a few supplements, but who really finnishes apps so early. december 31 is the day to do them all ;)

This is true.

Though most of mine I'll be doing November 30.

Totally agree, December 31st is the day to do them all ;) though I actually did most of mine the night of December 18th so I guess I did cut it close nonetheless.

No...really it doesn't matter. For schools that are NOT on rolling admissions, submitting your application early will not give you any advantage. Similarly, postmarking your application will not cause any disadvantage.

Geez...the myths about college admissions.

I completed half of both Kansas and Oberlin's (of course I must wait for the recs and transcript as well as the SAT taking in October); for now all I will be doing is writing the essays. The rest is just asking questions.

why. didnt. MIT. send. one. yet. AHHHHHH.

washU sent one a billion years ago though...
