I’m applying to Andover for the 11th grade. I’m African American from North Carolina and I will be a boarder. I have a 3.9 GPA my EC’s are varsity volleyball, varsity track, horse back riding, choir, public speaking, and a lot of community service. My achievements are People to People Ambassador
Beta Club President…
Oratorical Contest winner
Junior National Honor Society member
120 volunteer hours at New Vanderbilt Rehab Nursing Center
High Honor Roll
2014 Miss Teen New York pageant contestant
Assistant Youth Leader at My church.
My interview went really really we’ll and my interviewer loved me and said they’ll push to get me in. And I’m really proud of my essay and I believe admissions will really like it and it will stick out from other applicants. But my only problem is I did very bad on my ssat, scoring the 60-70 range percentile, only because I got really nervous during the test and had a break down. Do I still have a chance though?
@pAndover17: Andover accepts the February SSAT, I believe. Are you willing to retake?
@thelittleswimmer Yes…if I retake and make a better score do I still have a chance for eleventh grade since its very competitive?
@pAndover17: Honestly, no one here can give you an accurate answer, as we are not AO’s. I think you have a good chance. You also have a wide variety of extracurriculars and lots of community service hours to boot. You are also an URM (Under-Represented Minority). I believe it is more difficult to get in for the 11th grade, but if you interviewer said specifically that he/she will push for you to get in (who is this interviewer, anyway? you can pm it to me), that will raise your chances. To sum up, I think that you are a very strong contender for Andover. For now, I would study very hard and work on getting those SSAT scores up.
Okay and thanks so much…hopefully it will work out!
