Andover yet anyone?

go to revisit day, until you do don’t make a final decision (:

however,
GO DEERFIELDDDDDDDDDDDD
haha ok i’ll be quiet now.

They are two different types of schools:

Deerfield:
Smaller then Andover
SAFE environment, school is not in the center of the town
One of the best facilities and infrastructure I have seen
Beautiful campuses
A little bit more structured environment.
Lower diversity
Lower numbered of colored students.
Harder to get FA or limited FA compared to Andover.
Hard to get in even if you have outstanding SSAT scores.
Cost of tuition much higher compared to Andover.
Overall very good school.

Andover:
One of the largest schools in US, Similar to Exeter
School is part of the town Andover. Traffic passes through school. Part of urban setting.
Less structured environments.
Good for very independent student who can live and take care of themselves on their own.
Academic competition is strong within the school.
Seem to have more Hype then Deerfield.
Higher diversity
Higher colored students
Has one of the highest FA available.
Easy to get FA.
Has lower tuition and application cost.

It all depends of what you are looking for in school. What fits you better and where you will be most happy and comfortable?

For Anjintrader:

Wow, my two year old thread lives on! I am now an Andover parent, so I will weigh in on this issue. Unfortunately, I have not visited Deerfield or Exeter, so I don’t have personal experience. You should try to go to all three revisit days if you can.

Andover is NOT urban. Our home in Brooklyn is urban. The town of Andover is suburban.

The academic competition will be strong at all of these schools. Andover is “also hard to get in even if you have outstanding SSAT scores.” But, your student already has been admitted, so no need to worry about that.

Deerfield is in a smaller town…good or bad, depending on what you like. Transportation to/from there may be more difficult. Andover students can fly into Boston or Manchester, NH.

Deerfield has a dress code and sit-down dinners, and would be considered more formal than Andover. Again, not good or bad, just depends on where the student would be most comfortable.

And, while Andover is larger, some dorms have only six students, and the support system is very good…so, it can feel small in some ways. I did worry that it might be too large, but that gives advantages.

Good luck with having such a tough choice…any questions you can PM me.
