Well, I think most schools have an animation major available as an graduate program... but if I wanted to major in a related field during my undergraduate years, what should I exactly apply my major as? I was confused...

I put down my major as studio art for now but I think animation is in the film/video department.. (NYU- Tisch).. Do I need to submit a portfolio for that as well? (but I can't film and that's not my interest so.. would they require that?) And would I have to create some kind of animation to go along with the portfolio? I'm so confused....

SCAD has an undergrad program in animation One prof is Phil Young formerly of Disney. One of his characters was Belle from Beauty and the Beast. I believe Disney and others are not so concerned with technical skills because they will teach you their proprietary software. They want to see portfolios that include motion studies done in pencil. They love flip books for example. So figure drawing, anatomy, etc are good classes; not sure what major you should pursue otherwise except that you should draw draw draw!

Friend of D's is going to SCAD for video game character design/animation. From what friend said, it is one of the few schools in the country with this specialty.

SCAD has an animation dept, and an interactive design and game development dept, as well as visual effects and motion graphics depts. Per interactive design, this professor was honored in - I think - last year's Print magazine interactive annual for this site:
