Animation

I've been worrying about and thinking about this for awhile now. I wanted to transfer to school of Cinema and Television from school of Fine Arts because my focus is animation...

However, I read the booklet (that I got long time ago that I found) and it says animators are both in the school of Fine Arts and also in the Cinema and Television. Now I'm just confused. I know school of Cinema and Telelvision is difficult to get in also. Should I just stay where I am or least attempt to change my college? Which would be better for a future-wanna-be-animator? I'm leaning towards Fine Arts just because i have already been accepted and I wouldn't be very good at other things related to film besides animation (I love drawing so...)

Can anybody give me any insight?

I think in either Dept you will learn the techniques and skills to being an animator. I already have a Bachelor of Art in Art. So Im waitlisted for Graduate DADA now. If you're an undergrad, focus on drawing and practice, practice, practice. Drawing is the key to animation. The more you do it, the better you get. And then applying it to digital media (like Maya, Softimage, 3DSM, etc) with only enhance it.

Also, try joining an few animator/CG sites like:
www.Gamasutra.com
www.Highend3d.com
www.Concertart.org
www.cgsociety.org

Also go to a few Anime conventions like:
SIGGRAPH (great convention!! Will in Boston 2006; in San Diego 2007)
www.Siggraph.org
I went to Siggraph 2005 in LA last year and met Peter Chung of Aeon Flux and Alexander animes. Cool guy!!

ANIME-CONS (list all anime conventions year round)
www.anime-cons.com

So I should stay in Fine Arts?

I dunno if i can answer that question. But if you cant transfer to CNTV Animation, maybe you can take the CNTV animation classes as an added credit or minor, if allowed. Maybe you can ask your advisor when you are assigned one.

I still stress the importance of fine art (painting, sculpting, drawing). It will help you in animation....whereas you can do computer 2d anime, 3d anime, claymation, stop motion, experimental anime, etc.

BTW, Uyulove, is there Undergrad Orientation coming up soon? I would ask and tour both places at that time and ask questions. Then determine what you should do.

I cant go to the orientation.. I'll be out of the country then...

Is there animation in CNTV for undergrads? I though it was only in the grad school...

Yeah it is, but i thought i know animators go through CNTV too.. (like i said, some go through fine arts and some go through cntv) i don't know which one i should be at...

There is an undergrad minor for animation though so i'm def going for that

Well, if they have it as an undergrad major (which I don't think they do) you should go for that because you'll make connections in the industry. At least apply and if you don't get in then don't worry about it and just go for the minor (which would still be awesome). You can always apply to the animation degree in grad school!

There's no major. Only minor. People going for animators in the future go through either CNTV or Fine Arts. I don't know which one i should choose... i know if i goto grad school, i would go for animation major though...

So what are you trying to decide? If you want toMajor in Fine Arts/ minor in CNTV? Or if you want to major in production/minor in animation? Since there's no major you should major in Fine Arts for sure because that will prepare you more for the art aspect of it and also minor in animation.

Yeah that was my dilema...whether i should stay in fine arts or goto CNTV... thanx for your input. ^_^
