I am trying to make my final decision as to where to attend next year and I have it down to the Annenberg School at USC and the Newhouse School at Syracuse. I am a broadcast journalism major. I received a 1/2 tuition scholarship at USC and no scholarships from Newhouse; however, I am blessed enough that I don't have to make a decision based on money. Can you help me make a decision? What are Pros/Cons of each of these schools?

I was accepted to Newhouse with a scholarship and accepted as a spring admit to Annenberg. I am choosing USC because the Trojan Family is unparalleled! I personally want my career to keep me in California and there’s some crazy statistic like 75% of USC alum are in California (not sure if that statistic is 100% correct). Also, I consider LA to be one of the media capitols of the world and I feel like I can have more access to internships during my time at USC in comparison to having to drive 4 hours from Syracuse to NYC for an opportunity like that. Newhouse is still an amazing journalism school so wherever you end up will give you a bright future! (:

I had the chance to choose between USC and the Bandier Program at Syracuse. Syracuse offered me a (very very) small scholarship, USC offered me nothing. I chose USC. I have zero regrets.

To both of you: I am on the east coast now and I would really like to go somewhere different for college; however, what I’ve heard is that annenberg is really good for jobs/internships on west coast and cuse is the same way on the east coast. Now I don’t know if I can make my decision as to where I want to work for the rest of my life as an 18 year old. If I decide to attend annenberg (where I’m leaning right now) would I be able to come back to the east coast at some point or will my degree not mean as much outside of cali and the surrounding areas?

Annenberg with the $$ but understand that you may not come back; how do you and your parents feel about you landing in California?

D1 had this decision as well and ended up in Newhouse, but it was reversed; merit at Newhouse, 0 at USC (and an east coaster)…she decided that she didn’t want to be on the West Coast at 18…

Have you visited USC? Might make your decision easier?

@Rodney I did visit in early March and loved it-fell in love with it actually, to the point that I had no doubts in my mind that I would end up there next year. The acceptance at Newhouse just made me think more about the East Coast vs. West Coast factor. And my parents don’t really mind where I end up. We have moved around a little bit so they are used to travelling meaning it is really up to me…unfortunately. Can you elaborate by what your daughter meant by not wanting to be on the west coast at 18? Was it the distance or the culture or something else that she didn’t like.
