Announcement for RD kids: Don't worry about anything on "where am I in the process"

It's pretty weird and sometimes things don't go up on time or at all, even if admissions has them. If you're concerned about any of your items call the admissions office, otherwise don't let anything on that page worry you except your admissions decision :)

But beware! I contacted the admissions office (as directed by my error page) and was greeted by a pretty rude email back about “being patient” even though my email was not at all aggressive and was a response to what their own website instructed me to do. I think the admissions office is really weighed down with apps right now and pretty stressed so only contact at your own risk

This may be true, I called them a couple of times during Early Decision to check if my app was complete and if I would get a decision on time and they were very nice.

do you know if they keep track of you contacting the admissions office? Does it show interest? Or do they just not care…

I’m not sure! It can’t hurt  well, it might hurt if you do it obsessively. But if you call a couple times to check if your application materials have arrived or if your app is complete, that’s totally fine.

Don’t worry about the “where am I in the process” website not updating. Unless you get something from CMU Admissions saying that you’re missing application materials, you’re fine. They took forever to put in my SAT subject tests last year.

If you’re calling about application materials, I wouldn’t think that would count as showing “demonstrated interest.” The best way to show demonstrated interest at this point is to do an alumni interview! :)

I think the “be patient” email may have been a form reply. Most admissions offices have a variety of these they use to respond. And, they often have work study students handling routine tasks like this. I wouldn’t worry or take it personally.
