DH would be very offended. They will go on my earring drawer and I will wear them very very occasionally.
And yes, I suggested years ago that he no longer buy me earrings…

When DH gave me my engagement ring he admitted he had no idea what I wanted and that this was just a “placeholder” until we could go pick out one together.
Which we did. He then proceeded to tell everyone that I returned the ring he gave me and he’s used it as an excuse to never buy me another piece of jewelry (but to be fair, I don’t wear any jewelry at all).
We just got back from an AirBNB stay – the bed had this mattress and it was so comfortable I wrote down the name of it (Zinus).

D23 small speaker to stream music. She actually got two (they were very reasonably priced) since I tend to buy presents in Oct and then forget where I hid them. I ordered the first speaker Nov 1 and on Dec 20 I ordered a second telling all of my co-workers that the first was bound to turn up now that I ordered a new one. Found the first speaker when I pulled out another box to wrap on Christmas Eve. Now she has two so she can keep one home and have one at school and she absolutely loves that she won’t have to remember to bring it back and forth (she comes home frequently). The second one was actually her favorite so I guess it all turned out okay. She also loved the bedazzler that she picked out and placed in my Amazon cart
Anything from my students. As a teacher, I am completely flattered when families think to include me in their gift-giving no matter what the actual gift is. I get lots of gift cards, hand lotion, candles, etc. Often it is food related. I have allergies and I don’t think I’ve ever been able to actually eat any of it, but I love that I can share it will my family.
Misses: The massage gun I got for S23. I realized the day it arrived that he had claimed my husband’s as his own when I saw it on his bedroom floor. We are paying for his trip to Costa Rica and all the clothing/equipment needed so this was just for him to have something to unwrap.
The three trinkets D22 got me from the dollar section of Target. Really? I don’t expect much but this was an obvious “I can’t be bothered” statement.
The wine opener from my mother. I don’t drink wine. She seems to go out of her way to buy me something as a dig each year (buying clothes that I obviously can’t fit into or items she knows I’d never display in my home. It’s a running gag with my friends. Usually, it’s so bad they have to ask what it even is. The worst part is that she buys things from some online company that then won’t stop spamming me. I’ve tried for like 3 years now to get off of their email list with no success. Probably because she keeps buying me new things. )

My daughter is a first year teacher to 6th graders and she was so excited that one of her favorite students gave her a football card! It was in a plastic case and wrapped by him!
As for the Target trinkets, I got my girls a LOT of cheap junk from a direct from China company and they were thrilled with everything. One said she’d be happy to only get a bunch of Knick knacks every year (although she didn’t turn away her Apple Watch, lol). Maybe your daughter is like mine and thinks they are really cute and that you’d like them too?
I received a second pair of green (with G logos…) Packers pajama pants this year. I guess that’s fine – this way, when one pair is in the laundry basket, I can continue to support the team between the sheets.

We saw them a few years ago at a private event and had a blast.

Small pieces of pottery I bought so I expensively from a local non-profit that has a pottery studio and sells excess pieces.
BEIS Luggage for my son
Nice barware (glasses, pouring pitcher)
For myself, I SO look forward to the photo calendar D2 always makes for me.
A framed art piece from D1 - vegetable dye and prints on recycled paper. (I’m a gardener so, so cool!)
I did receive a set of knives from my S and DIL. To be honest, while my knives are not the best, this is not a present I expected….or feel I really need. They were very proud of buying it though and maybe in the end I’ll appreciate them but also being honest….at one time they hinted at getting me a Nespresso so I have to admit, I was a little disappointed it wasn’t!!!
My husband bought me this as a gift. It’s a wood burning stove thermometer.
A clear miss because it’s not even funny😝
Ok…a miss…DH gave me a yoga mat. I had knee surgery and really can only do the modified version of yoga. No balancing on one foot, no down dog, no plank. And I have two yoga mats…
Hit…a beautiful sapphire blue turtleneck sweater. I love the color, and will definitely use that!
Miss - an exercise shirt from a relative that doesn’t fit, and she “doesn’t think she can find any receipt, sorry.” I don’t mean to sound petty, but if I gave her the nice new clothes we bought her and just said “sorry” when they didn’t fit, she would not be happy. This is not the first time this has occurred.
Another hit: a butter bell (countertop crock) for D’s BF - and one for myself. They were a popular item this Christmas!!!
Just saw a news story that was definitely a miss. Someone received a Microsoft tablet purchased from a local Best Buy. Unwrapped it and opened the box-- no tablet, roofing shingles instead. Returned it to BB, got another one, decided to open up the box before leaving the returns counter. Again, shingles instead of a tablet! Either funny business at Microsoft or at the local Best Buy!
Hits—D gave me a super soft sweatshirt from Costco in a nice tealish color, a cozy chenille navy cardigan, a burgundy-colored thin merino wool sweater. S’s fiancée gave me the new Michelle Obama book (I just gave the book to 3 people and had been meaning to read it). D also got H and me cotton PJs from LLBean that we both wanted. Gloves for H and work lights with Bluetooth speakers were also hits. Aura photo frame for my mom was a hit—she loves seeing the pictures as they change. Melting moments cookie tin was hit for S’s fiancée. The Michelle Obama latest book was hit with my 3 girlfriends—all seem delighted. The very plush throws have been a hit with the 4 recipients.
Misses—Bose noise canceling headphones—D says her current ones are fine. S gave me iPhone 13 but it doesn’t have fingerprint ID so I said thx but no thx.
Not positive about whether these are hits or misses: pearl stud earring for D and S’s fiancée. Both already have studs so they both may return but seemed fairly enthused (maybe they were being polite). Aura photo frame I gave S—not positive he LOVES it as he hasn’t unwrapped and loaded it yet. Not positive about the advent calendars. 24 bottles (even tho only 1oz) are a lot of bottles!
Hits:
Knives and block, Bluetooth speaker, kindle, nice scrubs (kids and partners)
Hockey sweaters and tickets (H and I)
All the stocking stuffers
Other tickets for the family
Misses:
A couple of books (never riff off of a book list)
All-in-all, it was pretty good. H & I both had gift-buying issues for each other this year, with neither of us really into it, but we came through ok. After 38 years, it’s to be expected
Very Kool!
Our kids gifted us dinner theater tickets to “Sound of Music” in May. We’ve seen the show a few times (including a local youth production, gift from them about 5 years ago. And the movie many times (we had the VHS tape, often watched it on Christmas). But we are thrilled because it is is the very last production ever at this beloved dinner theater. It’s been a community favorite for the past 46 years, and we’ve been going there for almost 30 years.
Ok, the kids have convinced me to accept the upgraded phone with more memory and a better battery and camera for our upcoming trip to Japan, so that was a hit as well.
You will enjoy 13. The facial recognition includes when you are wearing a mask. The camera is very nice.
My dad was a teacher for 42 years. As a child, I LOVED going through the haul from his students! Lots of mugs, angel wind chimes (this gadget where you light candles and the heat makes the “gold” angels spin around and chime), aftershave and of course loads of baked goods, which we were happy to take off his hands (back in the time where no one was skeeved by eating baked goods from people they didn’t know well). When he passed, he had probably 100+ mugs. He kept them all.
