Just got an invitation today for a presentation by the following colleges: Bryn Mawr, Cal Tech, UChicago, Harvey Mudd, and Reed. Hmmm - unusual combination!

That's not an unusual combination at all, in my opinion. Those are all fine colleges with demanding curricula that might appeal to the student who wants to attend college above all to learn things. They are all colleges that are in the top 10 or 15 in production of future PhD's (as percent of their graduates). We have family members who attended all of those schools except Harvey Mudd.

See this: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=60980

Seems like a weird combo to me--2 hyper technical schools in Caltech and Mudd that have substantial male populations, 2 quirky intellectual schools in UChi and Reed, and Bryn Mawr (girls).

If you were to draw a Venn diagram, I doubt there would be many people who would be visiting all 5!

Maybe so. My son visited 3 of them (Caltech, UChicago, and Reed).

I'm with the OP, this combo is zany.

D got it,too. It made for interesting table chatter.

There are several things I find puzzling about this combination:
CalTech and Harvey Mudd are relatively close to each other and are obviously science-focused.
Reed and UChicago seem to compete with each other for the same students, so it's odd they would tour together.
And Bryn Mawr??????

In the past, colleges that have toured together have been similar, but in different geographic locations (ie, Harvard/Duke/Penn/?? and Bowdoin/Carleton/Pomona/Swarthmore).
