Another lame what are my chances post

I’m an Indian-born Canadian citizen living in California. I attend the 9th best school in the State, it’s very competitive, we’re a feeder school for UC Berkeley, a ton of UCs and we had 5 kids already accepted early to Stanford this year, amongst earlies to Brown, Cornell, 2 to Harvard, etc.

Sat1: M690 V720 Total 1410
Sat2: 2c: 640 Bio: 640 Writing: 800
Unweighted ~3.8 with 6 APs, 2 Honors

AP Bio 4
AP US 5
AP Euro 4
AP Calc AB 3
AP Calc BC TBD
AP Chem TBD

I’m a competitive speaker and debater. Amongst many many many top three finishes at league tournaments in Student Congress, International/National Extemporaneous, Original Advocacy, Parli Debate, Cross Ex Debate I have the following notable accomplishments:

Ranked 3rd in the State of CA in International Extemp last year

Ranked 8th in the State of CA in International Extemp my soph year

National Finalist at the 2004 NFL National Championships in Student Congress (top 20 in the nation)

I have a crapload of finalist finishes at tourneys like Stanford, Cal, i’ll be flying to Emory to compete at the Barkley Forum tournament later this month, hopefully I can schedule an on-campus interview. I’m Captain of the Extemp team (the best team in the State), I’m an officer on the speech team. Was cofounder and treasurer of Conservative Club, co-founder and secretary of Indian club, Tech Editor and Assistant EIC of a indepedent student news magazine (much like the economist), I’m a Defense Attorney and Pretrial Attorney on my schools highly competitive mock trial team. I’ve been a youth group leader in my local temple every week for the past four years. Played volleyball soph year, got a couple of meaningless awards like scholar athlete and mvp.

My slight hook: my parents moved our fam from Canada 4 years ago and they own a few UPS Stores. I’ve worked at the stores every day for four years, I have like 5000 hours of work experience. Through work, I got in contact with the CEO of a large Indian airline and I’ve been given an internship for the summer after my senior year.

My essays were decent I guess, I dunno, im a pretty good writer. My recs are impeccable because i’ve had my eng teacher for two years and my speech coach/teacher also wrote me a letter.

Im not applying for financial aid and im applying undeclared arts and sciences, but my app has a STRONG business/econ theme because of work and the whole “immigrants American Dream thing”

Well, for Berkeley, you don't have letters of recommendation.

Hahaha, dinanperformance, my personal statement was about the Chinese version of the American Dream. The immigrant experience, though unique, is quite a common one when you think about it.

As an applicant, you are amazing!

Though you never can say for sure, I believe that you have an EXCELLENT chance to get in (for both Stanford and Cal).

Good luck!!!

eh, sorry about that. i copied my "profle" from other posts for schools that required rec letters. Best of luck to you, too. thank you.

Where are else have you applied to?

Here's my list...

UC B, LA, SD, SC, D, SB
Pomona
Tufts
Claremont McKenna
Stanford
Emory
UMichigan
UChicago
UPenn
Cornell
Northwestern
London School of Economics
University College London
Imperial College London
University of Bristol (UK, randomly selected it bc I could)
University of Durham (same story as above)
York College (same story as above)
Washington U St Louis

I think thats it....

Yikes! That is a lot.

Well, if you were going to apply for financial aid (which you said you were not) you would have a complicated time getting the FAFSA to all those chools (even to those in the UK).

What? No Oxford or Cambridge?

I was going to apply to the University of St. Andrews in Scotland because I thought I wanted a change of pace. My SATs were too low for Oxford and Cambridge.

What should be the average SATs for Oxford and Cambridge?

You have a very weak SAT IIC math score.

^
this is true. i think thats around 50 percentile?

PXalpine:

If I remember correctly, Oxford's asks that its US applicants have at least a score of 1400.

But since Dinanperformance is a Canadian citizen, it is different for her. Canada and other Commonwealth nations have different requirements. In addition, if you're a citizen of an EU nation, the requirements are not as rigorous.

Thanks. I'm asking to get a general idea of how hard it is to be admitted into Oxford and Cambridge. I'm planning to go to either one of them for grad school.

For grad school, it's a different game. Consider competing for the Rhodes Scholarship if you would like to go to Oxford for grad school.

This IS lame. Every post like this is lame. Turn in your app, feel at ease, and don't be too anxious. The decision is not yours or ours to make or predict, it's just something that will happen.

My dad always says:

If you've got nothing good to say, don't say it.

[/quote]

It is extremely difficult to get into Oxford from US. Have a friend valedictorian, 1600 SAT, EC's good enough to be accepted Harvard EA, yet rejected from Oxford.

How is ya?

My username is aim, eiffelguy. I have to respond to everything, and most of the stuff that comes out of my mouth is derogatory.

Actually, I don't really talk on aim. I think I was just PMS'ing yesterday, in a manly, non-PMS'ing sort of way.
