another late bloomer

Hi,
I'm a college sophomore, and have just discovered singing. I' a very shy person, so it's taking some time for me to develop the courage I need for it. I'm not certain I want to devote my life to music and think for now I would like to keep it as a hobby and be a writer. I plan to major in theatre and take some music classes. I'd like to front a band at some point in my life, preferably symphonic metal, how much skill do you need for that? Does singing have more leeway than other instruments, ie, if I decide to make it my life, could I still do it? I just want to do it, and do it often, and maybe get paid occassionally, I think, for now.

What do you think?

I think its never too late to follow a dream

I also think the odds are incredibly against you.

I think you should do whatever makes you happiest as long as you can afford it.
