another one bites the dust

No, that is not what they did. Pull up the video.

Let’s take this out of the NBC orbit. Suppose you have knowledge that a friend of yours was recently fired from your local high school or college for sending lewd pictures to a female colleague. Knowing he might need employment are you going to immediately approach your social and professional circle and endorse him for a job or private tutoring? Are you going to make a public declaration about what a great guy he is?

@gearmom what was the connection between Curry leaving the show and Lauer? I missed that whole thing.

I’d make that public declaration if that was my job. Hoda got called in early to sub for Lauer and probably didn’t know why until about 6 am. Savannah was probably told at 5 am. And then she was told what to say. He was fired for cause. We don’t know a lot of details. Oh, we’d like to welcome XXX to our show today! Here’s Al with the weather.

Of course they could base their opening on what those on CBS had done the week before for Charlie Rose.

@HarvestMoon1 How did the little rascals put it? And how!!! Rumor has it it was called Operation Bambi in which Matt got rid of Ann. Ratings were down and internal research showed that viewers did not like ML’s arrogant behavior with her but NBC got rid of her not him. There was a dramatic tearful exit. She didn’t like the “boys club” atmosphere they had either. And when the #MeToo campaign first ran Ann tweeted #MeToo. Lots of speculation.

Geez, they did not have all the facts, they said that. They acknowledged their personal relationships , knowledge of their colleagues as coworkers. They never said they would support harassment. They were still processing things when they had to go live on TV. They did not have the luxury to breathe, say “no comment”, take a moment, gather more details, before having to go on air. I can’t even imagine.

@HarvestMoon1 Good recap

Noir sure what Ann Curry has to do with this current situation . But, since it has been brought up, I think there was a lack of chemistry between Ann and Matt Lauer.

Somewhere, Ann Curry is trending BECAUSE of this current situation.

And it is trending because some people still think she shouldn’t have been let go. People associated with him - Katie, Meredith,Savannah, Hoda, Kathie Lee, are also probably getting more interest .

^Actually it’s Tamron Hall getting the most attention with Ann.

I didn’t care that much for Tamron Hall either. When Sheinelle Jones came onboard with NBC, I enjoyed her much more . On air talent is important. If the talent, chemistry , ratings, aren’t there, my guess is management wants to move on?

I think the difference with Charlie Rose and Lauer, is that Savannah and Hoda are truly friends with him, versus Charlie merely beingNora and Gayle’s creepy co-host.
I don’t think in either situation any host was dismissive of the accusations or endorsing either guy for future employment. But sure Savannah and Hoda showed compassion for someone they felt close to.

Came across these words in the NY Times by someone who wrote in. Agree with them fully.
‘The fact is we are all fallible and capable of some pretty bad behavior. But we’re all more than our worst moments. The tendency to continue caring for someone in spite of wrongdoing is part of the experience of being fully human. That said, the part of our humanity that seeks justice requires that the wrongdoer be held fully accountable.’

I think that sums up how Savannah and Hoda are feeling

Now James Levine at the Met.

Yesterday WNYC did an hour long mea culpa show about the John Hockenberry mess (Takeaway host). One of the callers said she stopped watching because JH kept interrupting and talking over the female (usually women of color) co-hosts. Why couldn’t the powers that be hear this going on?

@mathmom Because the treatment of women that they saw reflected their own.

^^^ Agree. Because that’s normal to the men, so they don’t even notice it.

I have to admit I’m not sure I noticed it. I was not a regular listener, but I knew there was something I didn’t quite like about the show, but I never put my finger on it. I often switched to the other NPR station when it was on.

No, I think it is a personality trait of some people not linked to a chromosome.

Your opinion is contradicted by mountains of scientific evidence, @momofthreeboys.

I occasionally watched Morning Joe and he was constantly interrupting Mika…and now they are engaged.
