Another school may add football to add males

I suppose that, if so many schools think this works, there must be some evidence to support it. I don't really understand how (other than to get high school boys who couldn't make it on any other football team to attend). I can't imagine that there are a lot of male football fans out there thinking "Wow! I could go to Lynchburg College and cheer for a bad, Div. III football team! Where do I sign???"

If this object is to actually attract football players, why?

Average team has maybe 60-70 players. That may be 60 males who would have gone elsewhere. More fun than watching soccer.

Football often does a lot for school spirit and helps unite the campus community. The team would be bad at first but with a good coach they could develop into a competitive team quickly.

You've been to Div. III school where everyone is rabid for football? Well, I suppose there must be a few. I've been to games where I was one of about 50 or so in the stands.
