Last year was a boom year for most of the top BS. Has anyone heard commentary from AOs about what type of change in applicant pool they expect this year?

Will be less given the economic woes.

The same argument would have been wrong last year. I hope for all the applicants’ sakes that it’s lower this year, but I’d bet against it. I think the drawing pool for the BS has expanded, and not just internationally. In the U.S. suburban families who bought homes in “good” school districts are finding that they want something beyond what is on offer. Outside of large cities there are fewer private day-school choices, so BS see an uptick, IMHO.

That said, this site feels quieter this year.

I always thought that 2008 was the real boom year for applications. And that was at the beginning of the economic crisis. I think most schools received arpox. 5%-10% more applications last year so this I’d expect something similar. I just hope that I get accepted! :)

I can assure you guys, last year was crazy. There were so many people on this forum. This year I haven’t seen many. But who knows there could be a bunch of kids who just aren’t on CC but still applying.

My gut feeling is that international applications will go up and the domestic will be flat.

Last year, a lot of the big schools advertised abroad . They held a bunch of conferences all over the world. They’ll probably do the same this year but we shall see if the int’l applications go up.

it will most definitely go up for internationals

It does feel like the baloon is deflating a bit domestically, and I think the race among internationals may be on the incline.
