I'm kind of getting interested in Anthropology, particularly Cultural Anthropology, as a major. I've looked it up a lot, but I still don't exactly have a feel for what it is exactly, so I thought I could ask some CCers ^^

What can I expect to gain from an Anthropology major?
What kind of jobs can Anthropology majors do?
Is any of the things you learn actually "useful"? (practicality-wise, career-wise, etc)

^ Actually, with regards to the second question, I plan on becoming a doctor anyway...but I'd still like to know my alternatives :)

Thank you!

Ummm I'm sure your college has to have a intro to cultural anthropology class. Its best to take a class in the subject before deciding to major in it.

Anthropology is a pretty big field, and you can go in any number of directions with a degree in it. slipper got his MBA from Columbia after majoring in Anth at Dartmouth, for example.

An interesting field that's gradually emerging is medical anthropology, which may be something that interests you.

Well in reference to Slipper's MBA, I'm pretty sure you can get an MBA with any kind of Bachelor's degree, but still Anthropology is indeed a huge field.

Yeah, I figured it was a pretty big field considering the amount of subcategories it had :P I see...so it's probably better to take a course in it before deciding huh? I guess I'll look forward to that. Thanks! :)
