Antivirus

I do love kasper and would say its probably one of the best. But I'm too ghetto to pay for it and the keys are religiously blacklisted.

what mrspam said

What exactly is the UCLA AV requirement? And what should I get (for free or cheap) for Mac?

At home I have Norton w/ an XP desktop and McAfee w/ a Vista laptop. McAfee slows my computer but Norton is unparalleled (in a bad way) in my experience in terms of major interruptions, slow scans, excessive notifications.... Eck!

coughtorrents

UCLA STCPM checks that you have:

-XP SP2 (might be XP SP3 now for this year)
-automatic windows updates enabled
-antivirus program that windows security center recognizes
-up to date virus definitions for the antivirus

ucla provides free sophos for mac. not sure what other mac AV programs are out there.

Speaking of STCPM, if you find it to be as useless as I do, here's a bit of advice:

Install it so that you get your internet up and running, then uninstall it because you'll be able to access the internet without it. That way, you won't have an unnecessary program running in the background.

An upside to doing this is that you'll be able to have your wired and wireless interfaces enabled at the same time.
