As the day of departure for R-Day draws nearer, I'm sure all of you, like me, are getting a little anxious. Well, here's some of my anxieties. Please feel free to share your own, and hopefully we can help each other out.

Have any of you received your West Point mailing address yet? I'd like to tell all my family and friends where to write me before I leave.

Also, do any of you all have suggestions about what is good to bring with you on R-Day? I'm worried about taking my now over-the-counter Zyrtec-D allergy meds with me as well as my OTC face medicine. Does anyone know if these items will be accepted, and, if not, what to bring or get at the Academy instead?

Thanks in advance! I look forward to hearing from you all and hopefully seeing you up there! Hooah! Go Army!

Yea I am feeling pretty anxious. no way to describe how much i look forward to it! ~ but anxious never the less :)

I dont know much about the mailing address, but I have a feeling that you will recieve it when you get there. That booklet they sent out to accepted candidates covers a lot of that info

I have allergies too, and want to bring my over-the-counter meds too, but the book says something about checking that stuff in to the med station on R-Day

I am currently doing all the workout stuff and going after school to brush up on algebra and pre-calc stuff previously learned...that FCE test looks kinda intimidating as it is over stuff learned years past but not really used a lot in Calculus.

It is quite natural to get a little anxious between now and R Day. My son, however, was not nearly as anxious as his parents were and he did a much better job on R Day than his parents did. You will get your post office box address at West Point in the weeks leading up to R Day. That address will not be your complete address during Beast as any mail to you will need to include your Beast Company. You will not know your Beast Company until after you have gone through the door to visit the cadet in the red sash on R Day.

At that point your parents can go downstairs and into the lobby of Ike Hall where there will be a desk against one of the walls from which your parents can obtain your Beast Company information. If your parents are not going to R Day and you know someone that is, ask that person to pick up your packet. Last year I picked up a packet for an online friend and proceeded to wake her up on the West Coast at about 5:00 a.m. with my call to give her the company information for her son. So, remember to take time zones into consideration if you are calling someone on the West Coast! If your parents are not going to R Day and you don't know anyone else that is going, you will need to write your family with your Beast Company information and have them give it to all of your family and friends.

I would take the Zyrtec and see what happens. Worst case is that it will get thrown away, but you may be able to buy Zyrtec at the Company Store during Beast.

If parents are lucky enough to go to R Day there will be a ton of opportunities to join different groups and buy lots of West Point merchandise. We enjoyed R Day but travel for our family is easy. There will be a significant group of kids reporting without a parent, so don't worry about it if you can not make it.

Good luck and congratulations on your appointment.

Good luck! R-day really was stressful, but after you and your cadre get used to eachother it usually isn't too bad. Get lots of rest and eat good food for it will be awhile before you do so again.

I forgave you as soon as I realized who was calling!! Thanks again. :)

My son got his mailing address about 10 days before R-day. I mailed the first letter to him before he even left for R-day so he would have mail at the first opportunity. I did not have his company when I sent that first letter but it still got to him.

It is my understanding that no over the counter meds are allowed during Beast. New cadets need to go to the medic for all requirements so that the medics know what problems new cadets are having and what meds they are taking (it is a safety issue). During in-processing, new cadets will be told to leave all unauthorized items in their bags that are stored in the truck room. Prescription meds are allowed if they have the prescription label attached and will be checked.

As soon as you leave Ike Hall (right after your 90-second goodbye), you'll have an "opportunity" to rid yourselves of any and all contraband. Don't try keeping anything you aren't allowed to have. It's a lot simpler to leave those items at home.

You may not be able to take it with you, but if it's the sort of thing you can buy off the shelf at Walmart then you should be able to get some the second or third day of Beast at the C-store. Benadryl and the like will be available. I don't whether they sell Zyrtec and whether what's available will be decent substitutes, however.
