Anxiety from dropping medical school endeavors

Hi everyone,

I’m currently a rising senior Chemistry major. Up until a month ago, I was pre-med and was planning on taking the MCAT and applying to medical school. But I recently decided that I would be happier doing a Masters in Chemical Engineering instead and that the medical field was just not for me.

With this decision came a lot of disappointment from not only my immediate family but my extended family as well and the large amount of pressure and disappointment has been giving me extreme anxiety . Does anyone have any advice or words of wisdom for me to deal with the situation?

Good for you, @emma512, for choosing the path that feels right to you. What is it with families pinning their hopes on their kid becoming a doctor? I have known other young people in your same situation. Keep your head up, and look ahead. No one can live your life but you. Your family will get over it, though it may take them awhile. Much better to have made this decision now instead of after med school! Hang in there, it will all be ok… Guessing from your screen name that you are female. Best wishes to you… You go, girl!! =D>

Thank you for the words of support cameo!
