i'm a new grad who just started a job and it find i'm pretty anxious. i'm not sure what my expectations are yet or what people think of me.

i think this is a pretty common experience so i'm wondering if anyone has any advice or stories???

Relax. Working is much different form school. In school you get lots of feedback on how you’re doing (called grades), but you don’t get that same quanity of feed back working. At work, it can be as little as once a year (called perfomance reviews and what raise you get). Not getting that feedback can be a little unnerving.

It is usually OK to just go in and ask your boss how you’re doing. From my experience as a manager, there are those that ask and those that don’t. Just don’t do it all the time. Once a month is probably OK in the beginning. You can also ask you peers once you get to know them and feel comfortable asking.

You are not expected to know everything, in fact college just prepares you for learning a profession. You should be learning a lot on your job in the beginning. When I first started a senior engineer told me that it would be a few years before they got more work out of me than they put into training me. Obviously you start out in a hole and work your way out but he was probably about right. BTW, you should never stop learning.
