any advice for paying tuition??

I was determined as a non-resident and paying the ridiculous high tuition. My family live in CA for years, but my father has some foreign incomes, and that's why the school marked me as a non-resident. I didn't expect to pay that much when I accepted the offer from cal. Neither my parents. I get about 10k grants and a 5k loan, and my parents paid the rest 10k. But that's only for this semester. My two brothers are graduating from high school this year and they both go to college. My parents can't afford 3 children to college at the same time, the maximum they can support for me is 5k in the following year. I don't want to get 20k in loan a year to pay for tuition and then graduate with a horrible debt. Does anyone have some helpful ideas???

You need to transfer to a less expensive school and your brothers need to find affordable options.

If you can prove you and you’d family meet residency requirements, you can schedule a meeting with your school to discuss and provide your proof as to how you meet the requirements.

In any case, until your family can prove CA residency, you and your brothers are nonresidential and must plan accordingly.

CC is more affordable and can allow all of you to get basic credits. If your brothers can qualify for merit awards, that could help, as could FAid (if your folks apply and qualify).

I talked to a financial adviser yesterday. She said there was nothing else I could really do to save myself except accepting heavy loans. I had getting the maximum of financial aid gifts because my family is considered low-income. But that doesn’t and will never cover any non-resident tuition and I have to pay that all myself. So frustrating.
