SATII-taking in the fall (recommendations?)

THANK YOU :)

My best suggestion would be to check out the stats of people who got in from previous years, including this year. As you will learn, possibly through personal experience, the admissions process is brutally arbitrary, but you’ll probably be able to see some patterns.

Your schedule looks fine. I think Brandeis looks for AP and IB. As for the other course, I LOVED AP Psych. But really, you should choose whichever is most interesting to you. Psych is a pretty easy test, and I believe Human is too. Consider how much work each one will be with all of your other courses and if you will really enjoy the class.

Your extracurriculars are also impressive.

Summer activity: think about what interests you. See if there’s some kind of camp, job, or internship in your area that relates to these interests. Maybe get a group together to do some volunteer work. I’m sure this will look very impressive, but to tell you the truth, I got in without mentioning anything I’d done over the last few summers.

SAT: A bit low by Brandeis standards, perhaps, but definitely not an excluding factor! If your next attempt isn’t much better, try the ACT. Some people just do much better with the ACT.

SAT II: Most schools suggest taking at least one test in an area relating to a possible major. I don’t know if this is what schools look for, but I would suggest taking one or two that have nothing to do with your major to show that you’re well-rounded. For example, I’m probably majoring in biology, so I took two related tests (bio and math II) and one unrelated (literature). Review books helped me with the SAT IIs.

Just make sure you keep exploring your interests, do well in all your courses, and learn as much as possible about the schools to which you’re applying. Talk to lots of people!

I looked at your other posts and I was wondering why you’re applying to some small LACs and also some very big public universities. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, it’s just interesting. Good luck!

bump…

I think you have a chance, with a really good essay. I think it makes all the difference. My s is sophmore and we met the Dean of Admissions recently and he said the single most important thing they look at at Brandeis is the essay.

awesome! thank you :)

I think you have a chance. Brandeis would be a reach for you but not out of the question. Your total SAT score is below that of the typical Brandeis student and the big gap between your reading/writing scores might send up a red flag.

ED would certainly help and by all means have an interview and make sure you do your homework and let the interviewer know what in particular about Brandeis appeals to you.

Good luck!
