We are planning a visit to DAAP in the coming weeks, but I am concerned about whether my daughter has any chance at all.

Stats:
OOS female
GPA 3.4UW/3.55W
ACT:29
Class rank: top third
Many art classes in high school, including AP Studio her senior year
EC's are weak: Some volunteer work and she has a job

Based on the GPA and rank, are we wasting are time even visiting DAAP? Is there anything we can do to boost her chances?

Advmom, I think that your daughter has a chance because of her good ACTs. Also, she should apply EARLY.

Here is what DAAP says on their web site regarding graphic design admission:

Action (Automatic Admission): On a first come, first served basis, a limited number of applicants to each program will be offered admission under Early Action if they submit a complete** application and satisfy the following minimum standards: ACT of 25 or SAT of 1130, AND class rank in the top 10% OR unweighted GPA of 3.75. Higher test scores allow for a lower class rank, e.g., ACT of 30 or SAT of 1320 requires class rank in the top 35% or unweighted GPA of 3.75.
Final Selection (Pooled Admission): Applicants who submit a complete** application by 5:00 pm on December 1st , who are not selected for Early Action, and who meet the following minimum standards, will be pooled and reviewed for Final Selection in December: ACT of 25 or SAT of 1130 AND class rank in the top 20% OR unweighted GPA of 3.50. Higher test scores allow for a lower class rank, e.g., ACT of 30 or SAT of 1320 requires class rank in the top 50% or unweighted GPA of 3.50. Consideration of the applicants' Personal Statements and Statements of Co-curricular Activities will be factored into the admissions decisions of those who are pooled for Final Selection. All applicants will be notified of Final Selection decisions by December 31. Applications received after December 1st will be considered on a space available basis
